... mine are a right state but I will fix them for this summer.
So what tips do you have?
Metal foot file or pumice stone?
Moisturiser, lotion or an oil?
And more importantly how do I stop picking the bits of dry skin while I watch tv (its so disgusting why do I do it!) and making everything a 100 times worse...

To stop the picking can you not just wear socks?

I have an AHA body lotion I use on mine. I slather it on before I go to bed, and when I wake up my feet are way softer. I guess any exfoliater would work.

drowningincustard · 06/05/2019 15:29

thanks - yes socks does work but now its warmer I am wearing them less!
Will look into an AHA lotion - is that a brand or type - will go and google...

I have tried many implements. The very best is the Margaret Dabbs footfile. You can buy replacement gritty strips and it comes with 2 spares. They last a long time and I have tough old heels. That and occasional vaselined feet in socks.

loveliesbleeding1 · 06/05/2019 15:36

Heel genius from soap and glory has been my absolute lifesaver.Makes rough heels smooth, lasts ages and is about £6!!

ProperVexed · 06/05/2019 15:51

Flexibility sorted mine out in a few days.

ProperVexed · 06/05/2019 15:52

Flexitol!!! (Though flexibility might help)

Fridaysgirl · 06/05/2019 15:54

Three monthly Footner (cheaper options too) and then daily application of CCS Swedish Foot Care cream. Simple.

Bringbackthestripes · 06/05/2019 16:08

I file mine weekly with a foot file from the body shop then slather some cream on. Currently using lacura miracle cream as it is thick but O’keefe’s foot cream /hand cream is also good.

jenthelibrarian · 06/05/2019 16:13

Newtons Chiropody Sponge, dead cheap, best thing I've found for hard skin. Got one off Ebay after seeing it recommended on here.

Heel Genius - seconded! That stuff is magic.

For tough nails - don't try to cut them, use a file either a glass or a metal one. Give it a scrub with hot soapy water for hygiene.

SunshineSpring · 06/05/2019 16:19

Foot file or Newtons sponge two/three/four times a week, and the heal genius stuff every night.

If you can afford a one off heavy duty pedicure to start yourself off, it makes a big difference.

SunshineSpring · 06/05/2019 16:20

Oh, and stop picking my making them smooth enough that there is nothing to pick at.....

banivani · 06/05/2019 18:43

A foot cream with a high urea content.

megrichardson · 06/05/2019 18:50

I use those hard skin foot bags that have gunk in them. You wear the bags for an hour at home then rinse off the gunk. A few days later, your feet peel and are lovely and smooth underneath. They also cleared up the toenail fungal infection that I have had for 15 years, albeit temporarily.

Quicknamechange7 · 06/05/2019 19:08

Vaseline every time I wear socks (gym, when I get home instead of slippers) and a corn/callus remover used very carefully. The occasional medi pedi or chiropodist; a regular pedi isn't hard core enough for me.

Everley · 06/05/2019 20:27

I have one of those Scholl battery-operated foot buffers which helps rough skin somewhat. That combined with Flexitol foot balm, the Platinum one or if they are really cracked then I use Scholl Hard Skin and Callus Express Liquid Treatment.

Also tend to sleep in socks so at night will put on whatever foot cream/hand cream/body lotion is knocking around.

Laiste · 06/05/2019 22:25

Ped Egg, £11.99 at Boots.
Foot file, cheapy one will do.
Body cream, richer the better.

Use the egg and the file and then use body cream. Cream on again next morning.

Same again next evening. Cream afterwards and cream in the morning.

Next evening no egg, just file - rough and then smooth. Cream plus cream in the morning.

Next evening, same.

and so on.

Feet will be lovely after a week and then it's just a case of maintaining. So once or twice a week with the egg or just the file. Takes less time each time as your feet become lovely. The ped eggs last for months.

FloofyDoof · 06/05/2019 23:10

Newton sponge, followed by a thick layer of neutrogena hydro boost body gel cream, once that's soaked in, a layer of 10% urea cream, (I'm using the flexitol one at the moment but it smells bloody horrible so will pick up my usual eucerin body one tomorrow and go back to that) . I do this 2 or 3 times a week, just before bed, and my feet are lovely and soft.

TantricTwist · 07/05/2019 00:18

I use a pumice stone every day in the shower.

Amberheartkitty · 07/05/2019 00:34

Those hard skin blades. Just a razor blade like what the chiropodist uses.

Long soak in the bath then slice off the dead skin. Quick easy and around once every six weeks.

wobblebot · 07/05/2019 00:55

Sorry to highjack but there seems to be a condensed amount of door care experts here! 😂

My toe nail is falling off - it's hanging on by sheer luck.
How do I disguise it through the summer?? I've bought a couple of closed toe sandals just in case I can't but I live in flip flops and can't bare the thought of what it's going to look like!!!

Please any tips will change my life 🙈😬

wobblebot · 07/05/2019 00:56

Clearly I meant foot care not door care..although if wood filler would help, then I'm willing to try anything right now

megrichardson · 07/05/2019 05:57

Have you been to your GP, @wobblebot? (loving the name by the way). I'm no expert but I don't think that toenails are supposed to fall off randomly.

wobblebot · 07/05/2019 21:08

@megrichardson I had disgusting blisters after a walk in silly shoes and my cuticles were so swollen...I'm now left with threadbare toenails.
I'm a little embarrassed to mention it to gp, also scared she will take it off completely as right now I'm in denial (although petrified of somebody standing on my toes which is inevitable as I work at a primary school) 🙈

dudsville · 07/05/2019 21:13

Once or twice a week i give my feet a good scrub with one of those Japanese scrubbing things that was popular on mn last year. I've got a long one that's good for everywhere. After this i drench my feet in any thick lotion, nivea blue tub or EA8hr, the salve/Vaseline one, i have a coconut oil as well. I rub it in, add more then wear socks. Smooth feet!

myidentitymycrisis · 07/05/2019 21:15

I bought a battery operated rotating file in Lidl a couple of weeks ago.
Its good for keeping on top of the build up.

If I leave it too long its the blade followed by a foil file.
Alwaysput on a heavy moisturiser or urea type cream at bedtime and in the morning if I have time/can be bothered.
