How many days do you get out of a wash and blow dry?

I mean just when you do it yourself at home? How many days does it still look decent enough? I’m managing 2 days and then on day 3 it’s looking a bit greasy and I have to tie it up but my hair is a Bob and isn’t long enough all the way round to go in the bobble so I look really scruffy when it’s tied up. I’m starting to think I’m just going to have to Wash and blow dry every other day which is a real faff.

How long is everyone else managing and what are you doing with your hair on the days where it’s not decent enough to leave down?

I use dry shampoo to make it last an extra day or two, then tie it up for a day or two!

I was fed up of washing so often, and by stretching it, it does make it last a little longer I think. I now wash it 2-3 times a week, which is much more manageable. Mine is long and thick, I tend to blast it dry with the hairdryer and then just go over the front with the GHDs, or curl the lot if I have time. You definitely need Batiste in your life!

chandylier · 03/05/2019 21:46

Just the one
In fact if I was going out in the evening I’d have to wash it again

ILoveMaxiBondi · 03/05/2019 21:48

Which dry shampoo do you recommend wallabyone? Batiste seems to have so many options now. Are they all the same or do they have different ones for different hair types etc?

And can you straighten hair with dry shampoo in?

I wash my hair every 3 days

SlimGin · 03/05/2019 21:53

I have really thick wave/curly frizzy dry hair, so I can wash my hair on a Monday and it's only noticeably greasy to me on a Thursday but others wouldn't really see it. It can last til Friday with dry shampoo. When it is greasy I leave it down because it's thick so tying it back actually makes it look greasier.
Dry shampoo works with straighteners for me.

EleanorLavish · 03/05/2019 21:54

I swear I have magic hair.
I washed it on Monday am.
On tuesday I used a curling wand to do beachy waves.
It looks so good today still. Like proper, swishy just stepped out of the salon hair. I was admiring it this afternoon.Blush
I haven’t even brushed it since Tuesday!Confused
I’m away Sunday night with friends. Think I’ll wash it again tomorrow am but tbh it’ll probably keep fine. But with work etc on tuesday best do it while I’m off.
It’ll easily keep a week+. Never goes greasy.

Mrsbclinton · 03/05/2019 21:55

I would wash every other day and dry shampoo in between.
I tried a few different dry shampoos and found colab to be the best so far.

If it was heavy on the mousse I can maybe have it up on day 3, but not for an event.

I've tried all the different shampoos and methods and days between washes, but have always had Hari that gets oily quickly, except in my blissful second trimesters of my pregnancies, when I suddenly realised how.easy everyone else's life was without having to wash their hair most days..

EleanorLavish · 03/05/2019 21:59

Downside is it’s super thick and takes ages to wash/rinse and I only air dry as it goes crazy bananas near a hairdryer. Takes a day to dry.

Still18atheart · 03/05/2019 21:59

I have v fine hair which Looks v lank & greasy if I’m not careful. So I wash every evening. Then dry shampoo as needed

Expressedways · 03/05/2019 21:59

I can usually get 5 out of a DIY job and a week out of a professional. My hair usually looks best on days 2-3. I don’t use dry shampoo as my hair gets more and more dry between washes and doesn’t seem to produce any grease whatsoever. That said my hair is tricky and a visit to a blow dry bar costs me more as I have to have 2 hairdressers, one for each side of my head, or an extra 20 minutes added on to my appointment if there’s only one member of staff available.

FizzyPink · 03/05/2019 22:01

I was told by my hairdresser that you really should only wash once a week so gradually over the last year I’ve trained my hair to be fine 5 days post washing. It looks fine still and it’s incredibly dry so I try not to blow dry or straighten but I am finding it does start to smell after 2-3 days so I’d love to find a solution to that.

MayFayner · 03/05/2019 22:05

I wash it twice a week. Usually Wednesday night and then over the weekend.

When I am running I wash it 3 times a week, I have to wash it after every run as I get sweaty. It makes my hair quite dry though.

babysharkah · 03/05/2019 22:05

Two, three at a stretch. I have very very fine hair. It actually does better not washing every day.

MeadowHay · 03/05/2019 22:12

I have thick, slightly wavy hair that almost reaches my shoulders, but it does get greasy fairly quickly and I do struggle with dandruff due to eczema. My routine atm is day 1: wash, and roughly blow dry (don't have time for anything else really!). Day 2: leave as is and do whatever with it. Day 3: Batiste dry shampoo (just one of the basic ones they do I just pick a nice smelling one like the floral one), and usually have it tied back into a messy bun or little ponytail but it does look a bit scruffy tbh cos my hair isn't long enough to get it all back into a neat pony either. But there are days when it looks less greasy left out than pulled back and put up so I do sometimes leave it down on day 3, it depends. I find my hair greasiness massively changes day to day really, there are some weeks where I could probably get away with it for an extra day with the dry shampoo but out of habit and paranoia that others will find it greasy I never do. But really it's true I think that it's best to get into habit of washing it less and it will naturally adjust and get less greasy. Before I went on mat leave I was washing it every other day, had a short ish bob then but was doing the same even when it was past my shoulders months before. I decided before I went on maternity leave that I would make the most of spending more time at home initially to ride out the greasy period and get my hair to adjust to waiting an extra day before being washed, and I did that successfully xD

MountainDweller · 03/05/2019 22:14

I would say it looks decent for 3-4 days and with judicious use of dry shampoo I can make it last a week. I'd wash it after 4 days if I was doing something 'nice' though! It's bra strap length and I only put it up in summer, because my neck gets too hot. In my 20s I washed it every 2-3 days (lived in London and used the tube, so it was actually dirty, not just greasy). In my 30s I moved to every 4-5 days and now I'm in my 50s so I've stretched it out over the years! It's drier post menopause though, which helps, and I live rurally so the air is cleaner.

SpeckledyHen · 03/05/2019 22:22

One . I couldn’t bear to start the day without washing my hair . I have thick curly collar bone length hair that looks a fright in the morning .

Stuckforthefourthtime · 03/05/2019 22:23

@Turnedouttoes I know a trichologist who says the thing about extending hair washes is not true for many people. People with oily skin will do better not to use dehydrating cleansers, sure, but also not to leave their skin unwashed for 3-5 days at a time. It smells a bit because of your natural oils.
If you want to leave it for longer, and given it's dry, could you use an oil like Moroccanoil to discguise it a bit? Or scents stick well in the hair if you puff a few sprays in front of you and sort of walk into the cloud?

EleanorLavish · 03/05/2019 22:27

Turnedouttoes some of the dry shampoos are scented Sobwould give a fresh scent?

Fatted · 03/05/2019 22:31

I have naturally curly hair. If I leave it curly, I could probably go about a week between washes. Although the longest I've ever gone without washing it is 4 days and I felt pretty minging leaving it that long! I dab a bit of water on it and scrunch it every morning.

If I straighten it, I get about 2 days of it looking good and can drag another day out of it with dry shampoo. Personally, I wouldn't use straighteners on hair with dry shampoo in it. I straighten first, then blitz with the baptist. But generally, I just let my hair dry naturally and curly now. Much less hassle.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/05/2019 23:13

I wash mine every day. Last weekend I had a bath on Sunday instead of a shower, didn’t wash my hair, and just put on fresh pyjamas because I wasn’t going anywhere - my hair felt so grotty the next morning. V envious of people who have well-behaved hair!
