How do they keep it up and back?
Mine always flops and I look masculine. Looks fab just as it’s done, about an hour later flop.

Cameron Diaz style from something about Mary ?

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 02/05/2019 16:53

It's how they do it without it looking caked in product that confuses me.

Goandplay · 02/05/2019 16:58

I’ve watched videos on Instagram and they have the same hairdresser. I’ve noticed the hairdresser sometimes clips playing cards to the sides till it’s show time.

I love that kind of big quiff.

Kris Kardashian has it too.

Very glam but no obvious gel look.

I tend to hold it at the back with a hair-toned Kirby..

MissKittyBeaudelais · 02/05/2019 19:23

LOVE Vicky McClure’s hair. Amazing, with those cheekbones. No idea (besides a really fantastic cut on good hair) how it stays up/back.

Goandplay · 02/05/2019 20:13

Kirby grips are a good shout. Thank you.

I agree. Amazing face.

I hate their hair, it's so masculine!

wichitalinemanswoman · 02/05/2019 21:17

@Huskylover1 they'd better grow it long then as don't want you to hate it Hmm

Alsohuman · 02/05/2019 21:25

Great hair cuts, they both look amazing. I wish I had the cheek bones for it.

Imfinehowareyou · 02/05/2019 21:26

My two girl crushes!
I was watching Line of Duty today and spent most of it studying Vicky McClure's hair Grin

EntirelyAnonymised · 02/05/2019 21:29

Back combing
The ‘right’ texture of hair
Loads of product
Session hair stylists

I love their look but I don’t think they are particularly ‘easy’ for average day to day wear

NoBaggyPants · 02/05/2019 23:06

Vicky goes to DNA Artspace in Nottingham. They may be able to help!

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 02/05/2019 23:41

Yes, obviously they should only be allowed to have long hair in order to be feminine.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 03/05/2019 01:52

I love it too but if I had it my head would look like a football perched on top of a beach ball

Penny2000 · 03/05/2019 02:35

I remember years ago at college I had a cute short hair cut and a woman with long hair always tied in a plait kept on making comments about how unfeminine my hair was, I just didn't need long hair to feel like a woman, I don't know why that seemed to get up her nose so much I thought her hair was lovely too.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 03/05/2019 02:48

It does look caked in product though. It looks like they've put superglue in it. It looks horriable.

I really really hate it, when ever i see Emma Willis on TV or a magazine i'm like the hair looks so horrible.

no one has said tjat at all. There are plenty of "feminine" short hairstyles.

That said I dont think hairstyles partivally have a gender and TBH i suspect this style would look awlful on a bloke too.

KittyWindbag · 03/05/2019 06:45

Emma Willis couldn’t look masculine if she tried. The woman’s an elf/angel. If I had that face and hair I’d keep it short too.

Fresta · 03/05/2019 07:46

I've always had short hair- really hope it's going to become really fashionable again!

Popcorntwice · 03/05/2019 08:38

There's a hairdresser on Lorraine this morning cutting a lady's hair like Vicky McClure's hair. The cut/style will be revealed at the end of the show so maybe some styling tips there!

Goandplay · 03/05/2019 08:54

That’s what I just came back to say. Recording Lorraine for later.

It has to be a lot of product. I think Emma willis’ hair does look full of product but Kate’s not so much. Both look gorgeous though

ShivD · 03/05/2019 16:17

Mine is a similar style. You can buy powder stuff that adds volume, you blow dry a lot and use something with a firm hold. They good thing about the style is that it looks quite nice not ‘done’ too and you can pin back the longer bit so it doesn’t get in your eyes for non fancy occasions.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 03/05/2019 19:34

YY hair powder! And - ideally - dirty hair. Bleached/heavily processed hair does this easily but normal hair is heavier.
Mine is a similar cut and I can't really keep it swept back, I have to sweep it forward and roughly backcomb with my fingers, then pin the longer bits back with a kirby grip, similar idea to a victory roll but rougher and uneven with bits poking out. I hate hair in my face so this suits pretty well. I would love it if I could occasionally have a fabulous Tilda Swinton sweepy quiff though.

Goandplay · 03/05/2019 20:16

Yes! Tilda Swinton is definitely up there for me!

Section the hair.
Apply Volumising powder to the base of each section.
Backcomb vigorously- especially using a backcombing brush rather than a comb.
Use old fashioned setting lotion (which stinks!!!) And dampen each section and then wrap round Velcro rollers drying with the hairdryer. Leave to cool
Comb out gently, then style into cool Vicky/Emma quiff
Apply copious amounts of hairspray

Disgustingly this should last about 5 days with applications of dry shampoo to roots as long as you are not in smelly environments.
It feels horrible. You can add a shine spray to make it look more like hair.

You could also just do the volume powder and backcombing and use a large barrelled curling tong or straighteners to give some body to your hair then brush it out and spray it with hair spray but it won't last as long
