I’ve recently lost some weight . Not hugely significant but am now a standard 12-14. I need to buy new holiday beachwear and clothes as I’ve never been this size so need new clothes . I can’t spend al it but want to look well. I’m proportioned I think . Any advice . Wear 38d for underwear. Do I need underwire swimwear or what do you recommend. I’m 5’7. Two weeks in the sun. Up until now I want confident and covered myself up . Thanks

Swimwear is so hard to buy online, you need to get down to the shops and be prepared to try everything on. I absolutely hate swimwear shopping as everything feels like its aimed at love island contestants but the gems are there if you are prepared to dig.
If you can get to them, your best bets are, in my opinion -
House of Fraser, for sea folly
Debenhams, for mantaray, Flossie, and their own range.
Marks and spencer,
And then you've got a few lingerie shops that are ok. ASOS is online but has inexpensive beach cover ups that are easier to buy without trying on.

Wether or not underwire is the way forward, you can buy non wired but more structured cuts and shapes. Trial and error (and loads of trying on) is the only way.

Make sure you have your correct bra size too now you’ve lost weight. Boob or bust group on fb is good.

Thank you!

I have also recently lost a lot of weight and I have ordered a swimming costume from Boden that promises to be extremely flattering. I will keep you posted. If I like it, I think I may order a couple more. I've had two (very large) babies so I think my bikini days are over so I want a nice, stylish one piece that doesn't make me look frumpy. They certainly look nice on the page...we will see...

Bashfulbun · 02/05/2019 14:32

Thank you too!

I like Boden for swimwear, it feels very good quality and is good for keeping wobbly bits in check!

Bashfulbun · 02/05/2019 14:45

Yes the wobbly bits I’m worried about. My skin is a bit loose! Good structure but not too restrictive is what I would like. Are tankinis comfortable

Have a look at this. Honestly tankinis seem like a good idea but are not flattering. Figleaves is worth a look. I have a cup sized halter neck one from there that is quite flattering.

Bashfulbun · 02/05/2019 14:56

Thanks that was very kind of you

Im 34F & I get halter neck underwired bikinis from Figleaves

Bashfulbun · 02/05/2019 15:22

Thanks!

I've had several very good cup-sized bikinis/tankinis from an Ebay-based shop called (IIRC) BraStop in makes like Freya and Panache. You have to trawl through the site but it stocks past season styles and odd sizes, and is inexpensive enough that you could order a whole lot to try on at home and then return any that you don't want to keep. It beats hitting the High St and undressing/dressing repeatedly as you work your way around, for me at least.

XingMing · 02/05/2019 15:29

Figleaves are good too, but full RRP.

Bashfulbun · 02/05/2019 15:31

This is so helpful! Appreciate it

Remember when you are poolside the bikini bottoms need to stay on!

TSSDNCOP · 02/05/2019 20:39

I recommend Freya bikinis. They are expensive, but hold everyone together.

Cherry321 · 02/05/2019 21:25

Panache tankinis are fab as they have a proper bra inside. They are pricey but I usually then pick up cheap bottoms.
Tankini or bikini (maybe with tummy covering bottoms if you're feeling self conscious) is so much more practical for a day at the pool / beach than swimsuit.

Depends where you are going on holiday, but I find you see all shapes and sizes in the beach.

Maybe a bit of fake tan and some nice sunnies to make you feel glam?

Alsogay · 02/05/2019 21:28

Obligatory bra intervention post: you are not a 38D if you wear a size 12-14. You’re more likely a 32 back, possibly a 32G or something, maybe a 34FF. Get properly fitted in Bravissimo or an independent lingerie shop. Most of them also do swimwear.

Bashfulbun · 03/05/2019 10:28

Thanks. I must get measured soon !

OP posts:
starsinyourpies · 03/05/2019 16:50

Bravissimo are good for swimwear and measuring so I would head there if you can!
