At Home IPL - does it work?

Does anyone have an IPL machine for at home hair removal? Does it work? Do you like it?

I am naturally fair and don't have much hair, so I don't have much experience with hair removal At the same time, I have two daughters. One who is in her early teens and developing a light moustache. (I don't want to be the dumb mum who doesn't understand or help.)

I think buying an IPL machine with three women in the house would pay for itself rather than sending her for salon treatments. But I wonder if it works and if it is safe on the face.

My main concern is helping her to deal with the moustache before it gets embarrassing, and if it works we could all use it on our lower legs.

I have one OP but I'm not sure if it would be safe on the upper lip? You have to be careful as sometimes it can cause hyperpigmentation which she would most definately not want! (so hard to get rid of, if at all). Worth googling and looking into properly. Maybe read some reviews from specific models.

Like you say probably worth investing in for 3 people to use!

It works beautifully. But only good in fair skin/dark hair.

I don't have any facial hair (yet!) so can't comment on that area.

Hi I’m a laser therapist and I’d honestly say don’t waste your money. A decent laser machine for a clinic/spa is 50k+, and the staff have been through lots of qualifications and training. And as previous poster said, laser works on pigment so if you have fine, light hair it will not work. Waxing/threading is a great form of hair removal for teens, or take her for a free consultation and patch test, most clinics should do them!

I have (or at least had) a burgeoning menopausal moustache and goatee and my Philips Lumea has dealt with it. I have one stubborn hair that won't die, but the rest have gone. I have medium (not fair) skin and dark hair. It's been well worth what I spent on it (£300 during an Amazon sale about 2 years ago.

I have one and it helps but not entirely because the hair is hormonal in that area. I did proper laser hair removal and that was more effective but it does come back. You do need to shave before these treatments which surprised me. It is much less painful than waxing or tweezering. And quicker than bleaching.

My mum wasn’t great at this stuff but I’ll definitely take DD if she needs it. Is there an age limit on laser treatment?

It works fabulously ( Lumea) And has removed about 80% of my hair after three treatments.

I have very dark hair and pale skin.
