Teen DD with oily hair

DD (16 next month) has long red hair. It looks okay on the surface but underneath (if you run your fingers through it) it always feel really oily and greasy, despite being washed regularly. Even when it’s freshly washed and she blow dries it, it’s still oily underneath.

Does anyone have any tips, or know of a product she can wash her hair with that will help? We’ve tried a few but she’s obviously using the wrong shampoo for her hair. Or is it just hormones and her age causing it?

It could just be hormones but I use this one and it's worked wonders. I only use the shampoo but you can use whatever you like if it works.

Do you use conditioner on the roots?
My hair gets easily greasy if I do.

MaddieElla · 01/05/2019 15:56

She doesn’t use conditioner but that was my first thought, that she was using too much or not washing it out properly. But this is just with using shampoo.

I will get some of that shampoo now, thank you so much.

My dd had the same issue! I bought her loreal Elvive extraordinary clay shampoo which is for oily roots / dry ends. It has definitely helped and she can now go 3-4 days between washes without it looking greasy.

Brilliant. Thank you, have popped to Boots to get some! Grin

Let me know how it goes!

Toni & Guy do a mens clarifying shampoo which was the only thing that sorted this out for DD

MaddieElla · 02/05/2019 20:40

Well. Just wow.

Tried the Extraordinary Clay, then she blow dried it. It's light and not oily in the slightest! She's tried so many things and is always left with heavy greasy hair, I can't believe the difference.

Thanks for the recommendations, DD's confidence is now sky high for non uniform day tomorrow. Smile

So pleased to hear that, it was a game changer for my DD as well.

I have strawberry blonde hair that can look really greasy even the day I wash it. L’Oréal is full of silicones and sulfates, please don’t use it! Try Mia Mia from boots and dry shampoo and Argan oil on the DVD’s. L’Oréal is cheap and nasty.

Princessfaffalot · 02/05/2019 23:23

Ends not dvds! DEFINITELY don’t use Argan oil on dvds!

Princessfaffalot · 02/05/2019 23:25

L’Oréal will definitely.give lovely clean shiny hair but that’s because it’s coated in plastic silicone. It absolutely will cause long term damage.

Princessfaffalot · 02/05/2019 23:26

(It also contains palm oil. It’s listed as something else but L’Oréal are terrible for palm oil)

sanitygirl · 04/05/2019 13:37

The L'Oreal clay shampoo doesn't contain silicones - see ingredient list here
