Under the skin spots - please help!

I should be too old for this but at 54 yrs old, I've got an outbreak of spots that are under the skin and impossible to squeeze. They last for ages and are on the lower part of my cheeks. I've racked my brains but haven't changed my skincare or diet. As soon as one goes (although it leaves a scar) I can feel another one brewing. I always had really good skin before, as well! Could I have become allergic to something? What is the best sort of skincare, I think something with salycilic (sp)? acid but dont know where to start! Does anyone have any ideas please?

I am a similar age and have started getting this sort of spot in the last couple of years. In my case, I think that they are deep milia - you can't see the white part on the surface. I've also had a few more visible milia nearer the surface, around my eye socket. I've successfully managed to remove some of those with a needle - gently pushing the needle into the side of the milia - but these deep ones are much more difficult. I've caused a couple of scars trying to remove them, so am trying to be more careful now.

So I haven't got an answer for you I'm afraid! I'm planning to make an appointment at a beautician to see whether they have any tricks for extracting them without causing scarring.

I've been getting red headless spots too recently. Been trying really hard not to dig at them and have been putting antiseptic cream on several times per day and just waiting for them to go. It's horrible!

I dont think mine are milia, definitely those almost cyst like underskin spot things. There must be some skincare that's recommended for prevention? Antiseptic applied after they've appeared doesn't help mine unfortunately. They take ages to go no matter what I do. I wonder if its hormonal.

Cystic acne around the jaw is usually due to hormonal fluctuations.
Salicylic acid can help. Don’t squeeze. You just have to wait it out

Yallnotreadyforthis · 01/05/2019 10:20

I used to have these when I was ovulating, they were hormonal for me. The GP prescribed vitamin A.
I sympathise, cystic spots are so painful and embarrassing.

I have found a good thick layer of sudocreme over night for a couple of nights and absolutely no proding, poking or picking and they normally shrink down to nothing or come to a head within a couple of days.
Full sympathy - they are horrid.

Extra Vitamin A is good, but you have to be very careful not to get pregnant.

Paula's Choice BHA really helped mine

MayFayner · 01/05/2019 11:15

Those kinds of spots are hormonal ime. If you leave them and don’t touch them at all they go away quickly-ish, and you can cover the unbroken skin at least.

They are sore though so I know it can be hard not to touch them.

NigellasGuest · 01/05/2019 12:07

I think I will try the Paula's Choice BHA

I'm 54 and have started getting spots again. Combined with dry skin. I've been using Cerave moisturiser and bio oil, and it seems to be easing. It's definitely hormonal 😞

Swiftier · 01/05/2019 14:50

I’m not sure how effective topical products (like acids) will be on very deep spots. I believe they are usually hormonal - so might be worth a trip to the GP?

NigellasGuest · 01/05/2019 16:03

Swiftier you could be right, although I doubt i will bother. Two week wait for an appointment and hopefully it will clear up in that time.

For anyone interested, I googled and found this. Unfortunately I do eat a lot of dairy, and nuts (I'm addicted to flaked almonds) genneve.com/prom-night-dealing-menopause-acne/
