Footwear for plantar fasciitis

Struggling with plantar fasciitis - wherever I can I’ll wear my Birkenstocks.

Anyone got any other recommendations for shoes/ footwear suitable to ease it a little please?

Vionics are good.

I had Pro 11 insoles in every pair of shoes: www.amazon.co.uk/PRO-11-WELLBEING-Metatarsal-Fasciitis/dp/B00Z099I5O/ref=sr_1_4?s=gateway&crid=1DG6MXS8WGN3F&keywords=pro+orthotic+insole&sprefix=pro+ortho%2Caps%2C147&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1556656555&sr=8-4

I also found that rolling both feet over a spiky massage roller before I got out of bed and stood up really helped.

They’re ugly but fit flops toe post sandals made a difference for me. As did doing the exercises (flexing feet in bed; heel raises standing on edge of a step)

oofos

lotsofthingstolearn · 01/05/2019 06:43

Thanks everyone think it’s going to be insoles as a starter for ten

Fitflop trainers cured mine.
Size up half a size though.
Insoles in everything, including slippers. I bought cheap insoles from Amazon but in the end some Scholl ones for about £20 which were a game changer.
No flat shoes/sandals. Ever. Podi person told me things like Menorcan sandals, Saltwaters, flat Birkenstocks are responsible for more PF than anything. Something to do with women's pelvises tipping backwards in really flat shoes putting immense stress on tendons. He said when women walk in totally flat shoes it's like when you stretch a rubber band backwards.

This is really useful, thankyou

I second Fitflop trainers with an orthotic insole. If I don't wear them for at least 90% of the week it comes back with a vengeance!

Yogagirl123 · 01/05/2019 12:28

Very painful I know. Saw podiatrist last year for this, as I was also suffering.

She fitted me in slimflex half insoles that support the arch, take a while to get used to, but they have helped me so much. Her advice was to wear them in trainers as they offer more support. Flat sandals aren’t recommended at all for PF.

Good luck OP, I hope it improves soon.

converseandjeans · 01/05/2019 12:28

Sketchers trainers - they don't look good but are really supportive. Crocs round the house. Not a good look either!!

I can see I’m late to this but normal FitFlops sorted me out. I once finished a Parkrun by collapsing in my DS’s arms in tears at the pain in my foot. I went home and changed into my FitFlops and laid off running for about 2 weeks. For those 2 weeks I wore nothing but the FitFlops and was back running with no ill effects. I now always wear them when I’m at home - I have a pair of “flip flop” type for summer and a woolly closed toe pair for winter. Haven’t had a flare-up in years.

Candleglow7475 · 03/05/2019 21:25

Yes to the pro 11 insoles - I get the 1/2 insole though. This time last year I was hobbling in intense pain. I also used KT tape and taped up my foot up my Achilles and across my sole. These 2 things helped. Hi

Gooseygoosey12345 · 03/05/2019 21:36

Skechers helped for me. Also rolling my foot over a frozen bottle of water and ice foot baths every night. Hope it improves for you soon, it's rubbish!

CornishYarg · 03/05/2019 23:15

Echoing others: Insoles in all your shoes. I have 3/4 orthotics (I use the Pro 11 Wellbeing ones linked to above and wear the firm red ones for normal day use and the medium blue ones in my sports trainers). For summer sandals where insoles aren't an option, I stick to FitFlops. Do calf stretches regularly, especially after exercising. The physio I saw said tight calf muscles puts extra strain on the plantar tissue.

Definite no-nos: Flip flops. Ballet flats. Trainers with completely flat soles, like Converse, unless you add an insole.

Fififi17 · 04/05/2019 07:17

Have to to recommend Oofos it’s the only footwear that stops the pain, it like my feet are walking on little clouds. Friend of mine recommends insoles (she had them specially made) if mine continues (had it for a year now just came back again) will look at that. Good luck and yes to stretching calf muscles.

YorkshireBelle2019 · 05/05/2019 13:59

I've recently got some white leather Nike Air Force 1s that are really comfy, just as much as my birkenstocks. Dr Martens have been great too.

As for smarter shoes, ballet flats are out and I'm not a huge fan of heels everyday as I'm quite big and dont like to 'tower' so got leather brogues with a fairly chunky sole and very slight heel that have been ideal. From Office but cant seem to see them now online.

soundsgreektome · 05/05/2019 14:01

My plantar fasciitis got better - when I binned the Birkenstocks.

spaniorita · 06/05/2019 16:42

They're not popular but sketchers go walk memory foam trainers were a life saver for me. Got me through a 3 day euro Disney trip in the midst of a PF flare up.
