‘Cheshire Glamour’ for a wedding?

RocketSurgery · 30/04/2019 21:02

I’m going to a wedding in a few weeks and was just booking a hotel so had another look at the invitation to check exactly where it was. I hadn’t noticed before but on the invitation it says ‘dress code - Cheshire Glamour’.

I was planning on wearing my generic wedding outfit of a knee length blue Monsoon dress and flats and now worrying I’m going to look a complete frump. I don’t really wear heels as I’m really tall and don’t like to make myself even more enormous. Should I wear something else? Nipple tassels maybe?

I’ve never even been to Cheshire before so I have no idea what to expect. Is Cheshire glamour similar to Essex glamour or is it classier? I’m basing this comment on Towie, I’ve never been to Essex either.

I am impressed @userxx. I can damage/demolish nail polish in hours. Even shellac looks tatty after a week!

RocketSurgery · 03/05/2019 16:31

I’ve never managed to get nail varnish to last longer than a day, but then I’ve never had it professionally done. I think gel looks good and fairly indestructible. I’m not bothered about them wrecking my nails or not coming off.

I don’t think I could stretch to a blow dry as well. I’ll be driving up the night for before with 2 dc and I can’t cope with them and trying to get my hair done in the morning. My hair is massive anyway, whenever I’ve had it blow dried I look like Jon Bon Jovi circa 1984.

Cheshire glamour screams “fake” to me if real Cheshire Housewives is anything - fake hair, brows, lashes, lips, boobs, tan, all topped with as much make up and jewellery as possible and a tight short low cut outfit. Will also involve a big falling out and a scrap at the reception. Classy.

Geraniumpink · 03/05/2019 20:17

Some Cheshire glamour seems quite understated - silky pastel things and very, very groomed. Other seems to be all gel nails and Botox. Just go in whatever is comfy and you enjoy wearing.

God I'm embarrassed for the bride. Is the venue Peckferton per chance?

RocketSurgery · 04/05/2019 14:44

Argh. Dh has spoken to a few other people going to the wedding and it is going to be really dressy. I’d asked dh to check if it was ok for ds’s to wear shirts and chinos and apparently they’ll be expected to be in a full suit. Ffs. Can you hire kids suits? I don’t want to buy a bloody suit for my 3yo.

I don’t think I’m going to be able to get away with my trusty old monsoon dress either. What do you think of this www.reiss.com/p/one-shoulder-cocktail-dress-womens-sara-in-bronze-brown-metallic-orange/?hInd=3. Is this enough?

That's perfect OP

woodcutbirds · 04/05/2019 15:01

That dress is absolutely gorgeous OP.

If you don't want to spend a fortune on suits for tiny DC, very cheap small kids' suits can be found here . We bought suits for DC when they were small thinking they'd only get one wedding's wear from them, but actually, they used them a lot for dressing up (good for being James Bond or under a cape for Dracula at Halloween etc. They finally ended up being ripped to shreds when they outgrew them, so they could wear them as zombie suits covered in fake blood for one more Halloween. The fabric is a bit thin but from a distance they look really smart. usually on the small size, so size up.

RocketSurgery · 04/05/2019 20:53

Thanks woodcut I’ve just ordered dc’s a couple of those - they’re going to look like creepy little bank managers. But they are suits so I’ve fulfilled my obligation there.

They’re not wanting gifts and have just asked for a donation to charity if we really wanted to give them something. I donated via the link on the invitation a couple of weeks ago. Now only 2 weeks until the wedding and I’m still the only person who has donated. Have I committed some kid of faux pas here? Was I supposed to give them an envelope on the day or something? I’ve never had to spend so much time thinking about a bloody wedding.

That cocktail dress is gorgeous OP!

When DS was small I took him to a couple of posh weddings wearing black trousers, a white shirt and a matching silky waistcoat and bow tie bought for about a tenner on the local market. Little DSs don't need jackets.

Offallycheap · 04/05/2019 22:31

I bet this is at Peckforton. Or Cottons? Or Mere? Go on, giz a clue!

Fatted · 04/05/2019 22:41

I'm only commenting to shamelessly placemark to find out where it's being held!!

Offallycheap · 04/05/2019 22:44

Brisingamens? Grin

Does that even exist anymore?

Duvetdweller · 05/05/2019 20:25

Sadly Brasingamens is only a memory. It was Panacea for a while before being burnt down (twice) and is now a Piccolinos with terrible acoustics. I reckon it’s Peckforton as well...

troppibambini · 05/05/2019 20:50

I've had many wild nights in brasingamans Blush
As well as piccolinos it's yu upstairs the most overpriced Chinese in Cheshire!!
I want to know too I'm guessing peckforton too.

RocketSurgery · 05/05/2019 21:55

I don’t want to say where it is as I’d hate for the bride to see this and think I’m being sneery. It has been mentioned though.

OP I love you for “colouring in my nails with highlighters when I’m bored”. Obviously, for a wedding you’ll use different colours on each finger innit?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 05/05/2019 22:05

*Cheshire Glamour is lots of excess -

Too much make up
Too much Botox
Expensive designer clothes that are a tad too tight.
Sky high heels
Orange spray tan
Long acrylic nails

In essence, you need to spend as much money as possible to look as cheap as you can.*

That made me laugh so much. I accidentally went to Ladies Day in Chester this year, in jeans... it was an experience!

HarrietSchulenberg · 10/05/2019 20:24

Maybe she means Cheshire Set, which is the fox hunting horsey brigade. The WAG look is one type of Cheshire style but the old money dresses vair differently.

managedmis · 11/05/2019 02:34

Go dressed as a big, grinning cat ...
