Downgrading on face products, is it possible?!

I currently use Liz Earle face products (cleanse and polish, toner, moisturiser) which I love and for primer, foundation, concealer etc I use Mac.

I know it’s possible in the supermarket to go down a few levels brand wise, but I’m wondering if there are any suggestions on doing the same for this kind of stuff?

I’m now on SMP and I really cannot justify the £120+ I’d ‘need’ to spend to get all my face bits that I’m very very low on.

You need to make a list and then look for dupes for each item. There are so many suggestions already on here and on the Internet in general.

For C&P, Superdrug do an excellent dupe. Aldi have also got one in at the moment.

chesterfuckingdraws · 29/04/2019 18:43

The Superdrug naturally radiant change is a good swap for the liz Earle cleanser and is usually on offer (cleanser is £5.99) the whole range is really well priced and the moisturisers are lovely too.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 29/04/2019 18:43

I love the Superdrug C&P dupe.

frugalkitty · 29/04/2019 18:44

Yes you can, but you need to be careful changing products because if they don't suit your skin it's a waste of money that could have gone towards your more expensive product. Have you tried QVC for Liz Earle?

Neilsfavouritechilli · 29/04/2019 18:45

Another fan for superdrugs c&p dupe. Doesn't smell as lovely but does the job just as well for much less.

movesyouveneverseen · 29/04/2019 19:47

Where have I been?! I had no idea there were dupes!

I’m happy to give something a try as it could save me a lot.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I’m going to take a look at Superdrug now.

I have tried QVC, the Liz Earle site often has some amazing offers on top, but it’s still a big outlay (for me right now) that I could do without. Thank you so much for the suggestion though.

Superdrug Vitamin E stuff is great .

TheCanterburyWhales · 29/04/2019 21:08

The Superdrug naturally radiant is nothing like C&P imo. It smells really chemically, and I found it harsh and irritating. The Vit e hot cloth cleanser is lovely however (though not a dupe of anything)
I use C&P among others but wouldn't fork out for a posh toner.

eyeoresancerre · 29/04/2019 21:13

I've been using The Ordinary which is quite good for some things. You sort of have to see what works for you but good quality product and pretty cheap.

Second for the ordinary it is anything but ! I’m a beauty therapist and I’m blown away by it and cheap as chips fab stuff !

ooooohbetty · 29/04/2019 21:16

Superdrug hot cloth cleanser does exactly the same job as liz Earle. Just smells different. Foundation wise I buy 2 cheapo ones and mix them to get correct shade and consistency and I wear that for work.

mnahmnah · 29/04/2019 21:16

Have you tried using eBay? I get my MAC and Clarins on there for much cheaper. All genuine, brand new

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/04/2019 21:50

A few years ago I switched down all my “night” skincare stuff, with no ill-effects. I now use a Superdrug serum, and Boots Botanics oil and moisturiser. I found when I tried to switch my “day” products, it didn’t work out, because my makeup just didn’t sit right, or last properly.

My skin is super-fussy, so I did it one thing at a time with the night stuff, so I could identify anything that made me break out. My face hated the Superdrug cleanser mentioned above, for example, and I have recently reacted badly to the new The Ordinary cleanser. (I don’t discriminate though, I bought a lovely Dior foundation last month after using a sample for a few days, and after a couple of weeks was sporting angry spots across my cheeks - I looked like a 13 year old boy.)

In terms of makeup, my personal feeling is that I would rather spend more on foundation (not that Dior one!), and primer, then use cheaper blush, eye makeup etc. I think - again, just my own very personal opinion - that if your base works and looks good, the rest of it is much easier to find budget alternatives for.

Aldi C&P dupe is ace, prefer it to the real thing and their Lacura Caviar moisturisers are very good. Another vote for The Ordinary as well, Hydraulonic acid, Vit C and Buffet. Pre mat leave it was Liz Earle all the way for me, my skins now the best it’s ever been got a fraction of the price. For the cost of some of these it’s easy to experiment and bin it pretty guilt free if it’s not for you

Approx40yearsofPMT · 29/04/2019 22:20

Another vote for the Superdrug Naturally Radiant hot cloth cleanser.

Re: foundation, I’ve just discovered a really good one from Primark of all places. It’s called My Perfect Colour and costs £5. It’s good coverage, blends really well and gives a nice finish. Worth a punt for a fiver and better than all the mid range foundations I’ve ever tried.

Kindlethefourth · 29/04/2019 22:23

Another vote for the Superdrug vitamin e hot cloth cleanser. Beauty Pie does very good skincare-great retinol range of skincare and some good make up buys too.

PinguDance · 29/04/2019 23:01

Yes Superdrug! I use the glycolic acid toner and the simply pure/naturally radiant serum too.

movesyouveneverseen · 11/06/2019 12:52

Well, I gave the Superdrug range a go, it was all half price and I managed to get 5 products for less than £15 😱

Thank you all so much for the recommendation, honestly, my skin is looking and feeling amazing, I’m an absolute convert!

Primark skincare is not half bad - I can't often find the plump and glow serum/ moisturiser but when I do I load up with four or five. It's great under make up. Their skin sheet masks are pretty good too.

Shanna89 · 11/06/2019 17:22

Aldi products are incredible! They're not always in stock but honestly, they are so close to the real products that they are dupes for. I feel a fool for spending so much money on expensive products for so long. It's just marketing and packaging you are paying for

TheBestNapIEverHad · 11/06/2019 17:27

I’ve almost completely swapped to cheap brands and have found some I’m really happy with.

Aldi Lacura Q10 serum

Aldi Lacura caviar night cream (I really rate this - it has a lovely plumping effect on my skin).

BodyShop camomile cleansing butter (I used to spend £££££ on Eve Lom! Shock!

Simple cleanser & toner

Vit C oil from Amazon.

I just don’t believe the hype with skincare products anymore.

Katastrophy · 11/06/2019 20:25

I also love the superdrug vit e stuff. Their hot cloth cleanser is lovely and really suits my skin
