Hair Colouring Shampoo

Any recommendations for gradual hair colouring shampoos?

I have brown hair and would like to lighten it slightly and discreetly (ie not dye it blond).

I've heard there are some products out there and looking for something that you don't have to leave in for ages

Ideally something I can use when I shampoo my hair in the bath and will lighten my hair over time.

Thank you.

Following as I loved henara years ago and have never found anything like it!

Ah that sounds good.

Will Henara lighten hair! I've always had the idea that henna darkens. I'll look it up.

Would love something that is do gradual that people don't suddenly say, "Oh Kate, you've dyed your hair!"

It won't lighten your hair , you would need a peroxide content . You can add gradual red or copper tones , Superdrug do some wash-in/wash-out . I haven't tried them myself though.

I used to use Aveda Camomile conditioner (in the tube) I loved the smell. It picked up any finer lighter hairs but didn't lighten it .

I'm not sure you'll find it in a shampoo. There are hair toners that can add a glint of red or brown, but if you want to go lighter you'll need bleach in some form, even a little bit lighter.

Your hairdresser can dye it one or two shades lighter for you in increments so nobody will notice, you might have to maintain your roots though

Ah thank you for the tips.

I was wondering if I may have to use a dye/bleach.

Seem to remember working with a girl who used a shampoo type product that changed her colour over a period of time. It wasn't blond but more of a lighter tone. Haven't seen her for ages to ask though.

Herara looks like something that could work or chat to a local salon (mine doesn't do colour, only cut).

John freida does a lightening shampoo but don't know if it's more for blonde hair

How about 'Sun-In'? Assuming they still do it, that is.
You spray it on the parts you want to lighten and the effect is as if you've been out in the sun and its bleached your hair lighter.

dementedpixie · 05/05/2019 18:24

Oh God don't use sun in, it's dangerous! I remember using it and abusing it as a teenager many years ago

Grin Us too. There are still similar things on the market though, just that they're called more trendy names.

Lemon juice is supposed to work.

Superdrug do a great colour shampoo, but it absolutely won't lighten your hair, it basically just stains it, but it's great for toning out greys and no damage at all.
I swear by it.

^^ This x 1000

It's wash in / wash out. I use it twice a week to lift my natural colour. Even my hairdresser compliments me on the colour and condition. If I use it more often than twice a week, people start to notice - in a good way.

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 05/05/2019 19:59

Oh, and they are cheap: tiny bottle last me ages. It says "3 applications" but I'd be coloured from head-to-toe if I used 1/3 each time!!

I have a couple of bottles of the red Superdrug one , I might well give it a whirl tomorrow ................. what;s the worst that could happen?
