How do you get 'body' in your limp hair that actually lasts?

Just howwwwwwwww do you do it?

I style my hair, mousse when wet then hairspray and it looks good for, well about 5 mins before flopping completely. Every. Day.

I have long bob.

How do you keep a bit of body?

Dry shampoo

Easterbunnyhashoppedoff · 26/04/2019 20:34

Asda curl cream on damp hair. Scrunch by hand and leave to dry /quick blast with warm hairdryer to take wetness off only , messy (ish) look on my long hair but stays nice all day!

Ilikewinter · 26/04/2019 20:39

How long is your long bob? I have really fine hair and find if its any longer than shoulder length it just hangs and looks awful...i have a bob that just above my shoulders.

I use John Frieda shampoo and a spray in volume thing that I use on damp hair. It definately feels thicker and if i back comb a bit from the roots I can get some volume in it.

Dyson airwrap - life changing. Love it - I’m sure there are other vollumising hair tools but it’s easy to use and gives me much better hair than normal

mooncuplanding · 26/04/2019 20:42

@ilikewinter

I'm wondering if length just isn't right for my hair type (thin)

It's currently just below shoulder with fringe, perhaps I need shorter bob?

Put your hair in massive Velcros and spray with dry shampoo while they’re in (so hitting all the exposed roots.

clandestinenetwork · 26/04/2019 22:34

Toni & Guy volume or matte dry shampoos.

I no longer have to use any kind of mousse or other product on my hair. Stops greasiness AND gives amazing volume; bloody love it.

woodcutbirds · 26/04/2019 22:38

Rinse your hair in Epsom Salts solution. It gives it body. Dry with big velcro rollers and use thickening shampoo such as Elvive but do get soem layers cut in. Single length bobs don't help those of us with thin hair.

Mrsappleby · 26/04/2019 22:40

I have a shortish bob and a few hair extensions scattered through the sides to add thickness but no extra length. Hair style lasts all day. Curly or straight.

MoreSlidingDoors · 26/04/2019 22:43

Blow dry in the opposite direction using high power and heat. Use the cool shot to cool the hair over to the wrong side. Then put where it should be and smooth/straighten avoiding the roots apart from either side of your parting. Works like a charm.

KateyKube · 26/04/2019 22:44

Layers and backcomb the roots.

Macaroonmayhem · 26/04/2019 22:46

Lots of Velcro rollers in for 10 mins immediately after I’ve bowdried it. Gives lift at the roots and seems to set the hair as it cools down.

optimisticpessimist01 · 26/04/2019 23:01

I buy a volumising mousse, let my hair become towel dried i.e. still wet but not soaking, flip head upside down and massage mousse into roots. Done this for years and still find this is the best solution for getting body into my hair

wotsittoyou · 26/04/2019 23:37

Only condition the very ends.

Towel dry.

Apply mousse using a wide tooth comb to the roots of your hair, sectioning to ensure that you are getting them all. You probably need 2/3 x what you think you need and this part is crucial.

Section off and blow dry with a medium tightly bristled brush that 'grabs' the hair tightly. Ensure that you are pulling the hair upwards at the roots and that the whole section is bone dry before you move to the next. Alternatively you could dry your sections using a medium headed hot-air brush.

If you have the time, you can immediately wrap each hot section around a velcro roller - making sure you're lifting the root. This is easier to do if you use a hot-air brush to dry. Don't remove them until your hair is completely cool.

Sprinkle a thickening powder like Schwarzkopf got2b Powder'ful Volumizing Powder onto your fingers and rub into your roots.

Massive hair.

Backcomb

KittyWindbag · 27/04/2019 05:43

Don’t wash your hair every day, but when you DO wash it do a proper all-in routine:

Blow dry upside down using colonising brush and mousse.
Put in giant Velcro rollers and mist with hair spray. Leave as long as you can.

Top up every day with dry shampoo. The hair will get bigger and bigger! I wash mine once every three days. On day three I achieve peak volume.

amandacarnet · 27/04/2019 05:45

I have very fine hair. My honest experience is that depending on how fine your hair is,you don't get body-in it. I have found no matter what I or a hairdresser does, any body has totally disappeared after two hours maximum. Keeping it short where body does not matter has been my only solution.

Raisinbrain · 27/04/2019 07:36

Bleach

BrightonBB · 27/04/2019 07:42

Don’t shampoo every day. Hard at the start but gets better. I am now Day 1 shampoo Day 2 just dampen and blow dry. Day 3 Dry shampoo. Use a Babylis Big Hair - I have flat, fine hair in a short bob and it is the only time ever that I have had compliments on my hair.

dancemom · 27/04/2019 07:48

I sleep in my Velcro rollers. As I remove each one in the morning I backcomb that section. Then clip them all up on the top of my head while I dress and do my make up.
Then I remove the clip, smooth over each section and run the straighteners over them. Occasionally use root powder before back combing if looking for extra extra volume.

Elasticizer

mistermagpie · 27/04/2019 08:03

My hair is very fine and flat as a pancake. What works for me is to wash it at night, never in the morning, dry it upside down and tie as much of it as I can on top of my head (it's quite short) while I sleep. Then I go over it with a hot brush thingy in the morning so I don't look like a pineapple. Straighteners just make it flat. Doing this means I have some bounce to it and can get two days out of a hairwash.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 27/04/2019 08:39

As soon as finish blow dry, load the roots with xxl volume dry shampoo and a teeny bit of back brushing with paddle brush

LadyOfTheFlowers · 27/04/2019 08:41

My hair is very fine and I love it on day 3 when it has 4 days of dry shampoo in it Wink
