How do I get my candy floss hair to be shiny and healthy looking please?
It’s highlighted to death as I have Grey/white roots. I use Aussie colour mate shampoo and conditioner around 3 times a week. It’s very ageing!

Thats bleach damage- how often are you colouring it? Are you in the sun much? using straighteners?

Snowglobes · 25/04/2019 14:29

The hairdresser does highlights every 5/6 weeks and yes, I’ve just come back from holiday. But even in winter it’s like this. I’ve been looking at hair masques and hair serums but don’t really know where to begin.

I rarely use straighteners as I know this will damage it. I use a heat protector spray but it makes it sticky and horrid. Need to find better products please.

Ask your hairdresser if she can give you an Olaplex treatment- helps keep hair strong against chemicals. If you can just do the t-section or half a head of highlights to try and minimise the amount of chemicals that would help too.
Aside from that hair masks every few weeks and conditioner when out in the sun- oh and no swimming (chlorine will dry your hair)

Thank you

I would consider trying a coconut oil and honey hair mask twice a week. 1 part honey 2 part oil. Put it on your hair wrap it in a towel (the oil runs) and then wash out after half an hour.
I used to have my hair bleached white for about 2 years or so, to allow my to go through ever colour imaginable and my hair dresser suggested this to me. It is really good for silky smoothness.

If you don't have time to do that, argon oil put through wet hair after washing is good too and smells lovely! You just dry and style as normal.

EnidButton · 25/04/2019 23:35

I love your hair colour.

Snowglobes · 25/04/2019 23:47

enidbutton that’s very kind. It’s actually 5 weeks since last done so not so great. I was thinking that I needed a big chop and to start afresh. But I’ll try the coconut oil and honey as have both already, thank you @aimily

I think just doing the T section is a great idea too. I actually don’t have highlights every time. I definitely didn’t have foils in last time so can’t have had highlights. Maybe it was just roots last time. I think I just got the roots done last time. I’m due in next week so will suggest just roots as the rest doesn’t need any chemicals. Albeit I’d love to go a tadge darker.

I like the bleach london hair mask as a normal conditioner. Once a week or so I smooth through a bit of castor or argan oil before bed and wash twice in the morning. Also tiny bit of argan before blowdrying works miracles. The Lee Stafford protein mask is good to use once a week or so too. It's in a pink pot called something like 'for hair that doesn't grow past a certain length'. I tend to use it as a normal conditioner tbh.

Lexilooo · 26/04/2019 11:26

Give up using heat, give up using products containing silicone, stop towel drying (use a microfibre hair turban instead) use a silicone free leave in conditioner after washing. All this should reduce breakage, dryness and brittleness.

Buffyann · 26/04/2019 17:42

Olaplex should help

Margot33 · 26/04/2019 17:45

My hair was the same as yours. The blonde highlights made it dry and damaged. I ended up asking my hairdresser to tone it down completely last month. It's gone from your colour to a dark blonde. It looks so much healthier now. Bleach is so damaging, especially over time.

Alwaysthesun · 26/04/2019 17:59

I would try switching to a better quality shampoo. I've found this had really helped. X

Freaking0ut · 26/04/2019 18:03

I’ve been using Aussie shampoo lately and am finding my hair feels very ‘straw like’. Mine isn’t coloured and yet it doesn’t feel very glossy. Once I’ve finished this bottle I won’t buy any more. Not sure what shampoo to get instead though!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 26/04/2019 18:05

Try "Mane & Tail" shampoo. Great stuff.

jeaux90 · 26/04/2019 18:55

I've just been through this myself. It's been an investment but worth it.

I do have an olaplex treatment when I get highlights but also use the conditioner. I do a treatment once a week (aveda) and I invested in a dyson airwrap to stop the heat damage.

I also stopped using hairbands.

My hair was mainly heat damaged but hairbands weren't helping.

I also bought the colour wow leave in spray which is amazing, and I only need to use the straightener once a week now. (I don't think the product works very well without the straightener)

My hair has grown a lot and it's in great condition now. Been doing this since January.

Fatted · 26/04/2019 19:01

I really don't like Aussie Shampoo on my hair. Even the moisturising one makes it look dry and horrible.

My favorite at the moment is John Frida frizz ease, but I do have naturally curly hair.

Snowglobes · 27/04/2019 13:21

alwaysthesun any recommendations please?
