Can I wear a playsuit at nearly 50?

I'm very tempted by some playsuits I've seen. We're off to southern Spain in August and I think they look lovely and cool.

I would get quite a demure one, not skimpy and with either capped sleeves or wide straps. I am 5ft 6 inches and weigh 12 stone and a 12/14 and my legs are still good. But am I too old?

If you feel good in one, then wear one, hopefully you may inspire others to do the same.

And this one

Don't see how it's any different to wearing shorts and a top, doesn't matter if you're nearly 50.

MinesaPinot · 25/04/2019 09:10

Personally, I wouldn't for a city break, but on a beach holiday then yes, absolutely. I'm 56 by the way.

On a city break I lean towards strappy or sleeveless A-line dresses to the knee with sandals and sunnies. Feels cool and comfortable, covers the bases for churches (although if wearing a strappy dress I always pop a large lightweight scarf in the bag for shoulders) and looks nice if going somewhere for lunch.

And I'm another one who loathes the 'mutton' phrase. Get over yourselves people.

Wear what you like! I wouldn’t look twice.

Going to the loo can be a challenge in play suits though Blush

Some more lovely ideas, thank you.

I do have lots of dresses as you describe MinesaPinot for the same reasons, but I fancied a change.

Thanks for the tip about a scarf to cover shoulders though Smile

Wear whatever makes you happy, at whatever age.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/04/2019 16:28

The Hush one is the only one I think would be suitable for Seville, particularly if you're going to the Alcazar or cathedral. The others are perfectly ok but I'd save those for a more casual setting.

JQBased · 25/04/2019 16:32

Wear what you like, they do on my estate. Life is too short worrying about adhering to fashion etiquette.

ThanosSavedMe · 25/04/2019 16:36

If it looks good wear it. Don’t let your age be an issue. I wouldn’t wear one because they look shit on me (short, fat and dumpy!) but they did I’d definitely wear one and I’m nearly 50 too

PrincessMargaret · 10/06/2019 20:36

I really wouldn't do a play suit in Seville whatever your age/shape. By the beach fine, but Seville is more about the palaces, cathedral, lovely buildings with a lot of religious significance, no? Shoulders need covering to go in some places, let alone legs, no matter how lovely they are. Unless like me you plan on sitting on terraces with a large cocktail for much of the time, where it probably doesn't matter so much.

ffs74 · 10/06/2019 20:45

I wear one, it's very short and I wear it with tights and flat boots in the autumn/winter.
I'm almost 50 and couldn't give a shite what people think, you should go for it!!!

BaconAndAvocado · 10/06/2019 22:26

I'm 49 and have just bought a play suit!

I don't think I'll wear it in the UK but will definitely wear it on holiday in Rhodes.

I'm 5'5 and weigh 10 stone......if I put on any weight before the holiday I don't think I'd feel,comfortable in it.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/06/2019 06:33

I don't see the point in them - how are you supposed to go to the loo?

But if you want to wear one, wear one.
