Sore feet when wearing shoes

I usually wear flat shoes and have decided I’m going to start wearing some of the lovely shoes I have however, my big toes and little toe always end up with blisters and the ball of my foot always ends up pinching and feeling as if it’s on fire. It doesn’t matter what kind of shoes, if they have a heel it hurts.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this? I really want to start to get into wearing lovely shoes again.

Are you sure they are big enough? Particularly the width?
I ask because I have gone up 1.5 sizes since having DC and getting old.
I have to buy wide fitting shoes these days. I sometimes use a gel insole for comfort too.

They do definitely fit, I’ve got loads of paid of shoes and every one of them do this unless they are flat or trainers x

If your nice shoes have a heel then your feet will be pushed forward so your toes will be being pressed against end of the shoe and rubbing causing the blisters.
All your body weight will now be being supported by the ball of your foot.

The shape of the toe end also matters. Stupid pointy shapes that match nobody's actual foot shape.

I used to have this problem until I switched to wide fit shoes.

Game changer.

I always wear 5.5 E fit and never have any pain in high heels despite being nearly 60 with arthritis, fit is everything. Also put a bit of memory foam under the balls of the foot.

I always found my ability to wear heals correlates to my weight, the closer to a lower healthy weight the longer I can wear heals without discomfort.
When I am heavier my tolerance to heals diminishes

Buy nice flats, ditch the heels, enjoy pain free feet. That's what I'd do.

I don't wear heels anymore. I do have some lovely flats though.
