Maternity to post pregnancy buys now

So, I am 34 weeks pg and have no warmer weather maternity clothes. I don’t particularly want to buy anything new just for the last few weeks but recall from last pregnancy that my bump takes a while to ‘deflate’ so will need clothes for after that too. I’m looking for suggestions - primarily for casual/smart casual/going out tops, cardigans and dresses.

I tend to wear longer line floatier tops/dresses and like empire line for dresses. Don’t like fitted stuff for top half. Bottom half usually skinny/boyfriend jeans. Shoes usually flat. I’m 5’1” and chubby. Usual brands I buy are Paul Smith, Hush, Diesel (for jeans), Isabella Oliver (for maternity but happy to keep maternity tops going), Jack Wills (occasionally), various from Anthropologie.

Can anyone make some suggestions? I’m hot, fat and fed up of how I look and out of ideas. Help greatly appreciated.

Hello

I’m not going to be much help but I’m in a similar position. I’m only 22 weeks but at the stage now where nothing fits and this suddenly warmer weather has been a bit of a struggle. I also don’t want to spend a fortune on maternity clothes that I won’t be wearing for that long so have found a few good things on Ebay to start with. I was also wondering how long I’d be in maternity wear after the baby is born, as a FTM I’ve no idea!

Last time by picking carefully I bought stuff that I could wear pregnant and non-pregnant.m (both maternity and non) I can’t be doing with phaff of eBay etc so this works best for me. Just feel so uninspired this time. Doesn’t seem worth the effort to still look rubbish but the nice weather this weekend has made me realise I’m going to swelter the whole of June/July and possibly August at this rate.

You may go down much quicker than me - I took quite a long time last time. My mum and sister were both much quicker! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! X

Like pp I'm in a slightly easier position as I'm 22 weeks too so have most of the summer. I figure that I generally buy a few cheapish bits each year as it is so buying maternity stuff is no different really. I've got a few bits from Asda (shorts, a couple of vest tops, stretchy maxi skirts) plus some cotton dresses from various other places which are non-maternity but which are cut to allow a bump. I'm hoping that will see me through but it's not easy. I hate summer dressing at the best of times!

If you're planning to BF I found the Jojo nursing dresses good and I wore those for a good few months after baby came and into winter with a cardigan and tights.

Otherwise I've been really impressed with Asda so you could grab a few cheap bits and see how you get on? I reckon you could pick up 3 or 4 summer dresses for £50 or so? Then see how you go?

Oh, that Asda dress for £6 is a bargain! Have also seen a few nice bits on H&M.

Thanks for replies! Some really good idea! I’ll be looking at those Asda dresses.

Was also hoping for some nice quality suggestions that I can keep the whole of this summer and maybe next given my day to day wear I’d pretty similar to maternity wear. Would like to have some nice clothes to help me feel good about myself. Shallow I know

You could look at seraphine for some dresses they have some nice bits.

In my experience most non maternity stuff will struggle with a full term bump even if it is fairly loose. I did manage to get into a Lady V dress last week for a wedding as that had a very full skirt.

It's fine to want to try and look nice! I hope you find some bits you like.

RafflesMaidenSister · 21/04/2019 13:20

Thanks! I have found the Seraphine quality to be really variable on the whole but I may have another look.

Wishful thinking maybe. Perhaps I am romanticising my last pregnancy wardrobe (lent to a friend and sadly never returned).
