I am 5'2" size 10-12, small chest, larger hips. I'm looking for something to wear for a relaxed wedding; the main party has been done, this is just the official bit plus a dinner. There's no dress code but most guests will be in local traditional dress (equivalent to wearing Sunday best really, they won't be buying anything new).

Criteria: High or high-ish neckline. Not sleeveless. Not polyester. I like Cos but often their styles don't suit my shape, I need at least slightly fitted. Oasis clothes are usually good on me but their dresses are often polyester. Doesn't have to be a dress, it just seems easier? Must be comfortable and not too formal. Weather is likely to be hot. I don't suit pastels. Not averse to pattern.

I've looked at Cos, oasis, John Lewis but everything is starting to look the same. Anyone seen anything good?

Toast? What’s your budget?

Notflyingfree · 20/04/2019 09:42

Probably up to £100ish. Not looked at Toast I guess I assume its all a bit too floaty.

I’m same figure/height as you and like Phase 8 and Hobbs - both often sleeveless but if the necks are highish I wear a 3/4 length sleeve top underneath in a complementary colour.

Thanks will check out Hobbs/phase 8. Toast lovely things but don't think they will suit me.

Think you should get the one on the 19th century thread! Think she'll swap?

Have a look at this style. I didn't wear this colour I wore a navy and cream one and got asked multiple times if it's Ted Baker, really flattering on. I was prepared to spend a couple of hundred but these are all like £30! All the dip hem range looked good, I've got big hips and thighs and a small waist and bust so this was perfect! https://www.quizclothing.co.uk/clothes/00100018537.html?tlk=(PID-GO1743486378)(CID-GO67975373683)&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjOL16KTe4QIVCuJ3Ch3hkAdoEAQYBSABEgJa3fDD_BwE

Yes, I think all the Toast ones with sleeves are quite unstructured and more like £140. Hobbs might be worth a look, there is 20% off today.

I recently picked up some wide legged trousers at anthopologie and a yellow top. I'm 5'3 and small chest and larger hips too. Might be too casual though for a wedding and the top is viscose and outfit can look quite creasy! Comfortable though.
Toast isn't really for us shorties. Beautiful clothes but definitely meant for taller women.

I'm not sure of your budget but would any of these meet your criteria -

Dress 1 - www.phase-eight.com/eu/fcp/product/phase-eight/dresses/mel-maxi-dress/206683408

Dress 2 - www.phase-eight.com/eu/fcp/product/phase-eight/dresses/ciana-colourblock-dress/240401899

Dress 3 - www.phase-eight.com/eu/fcp/product/phase-eight/dresses/elena-panelled-dress/206294331

You might have more success with your material criteria if you go for a top and skirt or trousers.

Notflyingfree · 20/04/2019 10:16

19th c dress would be too much for me. I actually picked out dress 2 above from phase 8 when I looked earlier. It's the closest to "me" of those but worried it might be a bit sort of bulky somehow.

I'm going to have a look for separates too. Could do with new trousers anyway.

Yeah, the puff sleeves added to the skirt is slightly stiff looking (and on me the combo would be a bit little-girl, but ymmv). I’ve been admiring this one, though it’s too similar to one I already have from Karen Millen ages ago when I had more disposable income and no banana-smearing toddler
