Outfit for baptism

I'm going to a baptism (catholic) of a close friend's baby, but have no clue what to wear.

I'm s20, huge stomach/bum/thighs. I have a long torso so anything fitted doesn't fit properly without showing way too much cleavage for a Catholic Church!

I don't like anything too tight around my waist, so a dress may work. Or loose fitting trousers. I spend most of my time in jeggings & loose T-shirt's so most smart stuff is out of my comfort zone.

Thanks!

most people wear normal clothes to church it is generally conventional to not show too much flesh particularly in a catholic church generally covered shoulders to just above knee ( not strappy top and short shorts) short sleeves is fine
so trousers and a top is fine or a dress over leggings

Just wear normal clothes. The rest of the congregation will be. At our Church (not Catholic) there are lots of christenings. I wear Jean's and t shirts or jumpers to church as do most others. Sometimes the Christening guests are very dressed up, sometimes they're not. I think it depends if the parents have arranged a meal in a restaurant afterwards or just tea and cake back at their house.

Btw I dont know why you think a dress wouldn't work. I used to be larger than I am now and much preferred dresses as they hide lumps and bumps!

Sorry normal clothes wouldn't be appropriate at our church for a baptism.
They are done as a separate thing not as part of a normal mass and everyone dresses up.
I would just go for a midi loose dress there are a lot around at the moment maybe have a look on Asos? Their curve range can be good for occasion wear.

I wore this Joe Brown dress to one earlier in the year. Really comfy but felt smart enough. Love their dresses.

I wore a smart boat neck dress (so no cleavage) that was knee length with a little cardigan & flat pointed pumps to my godson's christening. Most of the younger women were dressed up too.

My dress was from Wallis, I think they do all sizes but you could also try: Simply Be; Dorothy Perkins have DP Curve & also sell Billie and Blossom Curve; River Island Plus (online).

Think wedding but not quite as much (no hat and cardigan rather than jacket). Ideally skirt should be nearly knee length at least as some churches are a bit funny about showing thighs, and cover shoulders. The closer to the family, the smarter you dress

My grandson was baptised a couple of years ago. Most people wore smart (think Sunday best) but a few turned up in jeans and a t-shirt. I wore a flowery crinkle dress with a built-in jacket

AdaColeman · 05/05/2019 11:36

Think about including a light jacket with your outfit, as a church can be chilly at this time of year, and there is often a bit of standing around.

Mabelface · 05/05/2019 11:40

Look at hell bunny and collectif. They do beautiful dresses in bigger sizes.

Dress that covers your knees and shoulders. If low cut dress just wear a cami underneath - completely normal for church goer to use a cami to raise hight of neckline.

Debenhams, yours clothing and Evans have good plus size ranges for a range of budgets.
