The elusive perfect summer shoe/sandal/mule with a small wedge/heel for someone with neuromas and Achilles tendonitis????.....

Iambuffy · 19/04/2019 21:18

No back, so toe post or mule.
Small heel needed as I can no longer wear flats due to nodules on both Achilles tendons but not too high due to Morton's neuromas.
Sigh.
Black or white leather preferably.
Help me!
Size 5 please......
(Cries a bit)

Oh I'm with you OP. I have huge wide feet but I'm a size 3, it's almost impossible to find nice sandals. I do have pain but Morton's not diagnosed.
Last summer I lived in Hotter Maisie but felt they were a bit frumpy. No idea what to buy this year.

I've bought a few pairs from fitflop & they are really comfortable.

Another vote for anything by vionic. I dont wear any other brand now, ever

I discovered Flyflot mules when I had plantar fasciitis and they were the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. Lots of the styles are quite old fashioned looking so you have to hunt through them to find something you’d wear. The relief, though, was amazing.

I bought these from Pavers last year and found them very comfortable. I don’t know what neuromas are but I have had Plantar fasciitis and never wear flat shoes now.

I find Fitflops good too. Very supportive. They are having a sale just now too. I’ve just bought next years slippers half price.

Vionic brand is also good.

I love Birkenstock’s too. Arizona’s. In silver. Fashionably utilitarian!

There is a long thread in S&B about non-hideous sandals and you might find some suggestions on there although a lot are just fashion sandals and would be too flat.

Are you doing anything for the Achilles issue? I ended up going to a podiatrist and that helped. I got custom orthotics made but don’t need them now as I’m so careful with the shoes I wear. Even my flip flops on holiday are Vionic for support. I wear them around the house in summer as slippers too.

Not sure if this would help you but it def helped me with the PF - sit with one foot up on your knee. Pull back the big toe on the raised foot. Feel along the arch of the foot and you will feel a very tight tendon - massage that out. That helped so much. I used to do it a few times every day. Especially before getting out of bed. I also did leg stretches before I got out of bed. Also rolling a tennis ball under my feet.

Those who wear Vionic, are they good for wide feet though? Most sandals tend to be quite narrow.

SeaToSki · 20/04/2019 11:46

Vionic sell most of their shoes with a medium or wide fitting

ZazieTheBruce · 20/04/2019 11:49

Laidback London do some pretty small wedge sandals

Iambuffy · 20/04/2019 13:37

Ok
I've gone for the lottie fit flop :)

They look lovely, especially in the rose gold. Just to make you aware, Fitflop sizing can come up small and I you need a wider fitting I would size up.

Iambuffy · 20/04/2019 14:10

I’ve gone for a 5 as I’m ususally a 4.5
Thank you all for your help x

I know I’m a bit late but these are great with wide feet and plantar fasciitis www.marksandspencer.com/wide-fit-leather-toe-thong-mule-sandals/p/p60157986?image=SD_01_T02_5023W_Y0_X_EC_90&color=BLACK&prevPage=plp
Wore them all last summer ..

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/04/2019 10:00

Why aren’t you under podiatry for the Morton’s?.

It seems a bit odd for them to diagnose a treatable condition but not treat it.

Iambuffy · 21/04/2019 13:36

It was 16 years ago.
I was on the list for surgery but my appt. came through for the week I gave birth to ds1.
So it never got done.
I've heard the surgery basics results so I decided not to bother.
My ccg in its wisdom won't scan for nodules and I can't get physio without a scan!

Mixed results even!

We were taught the ops quite successful, you might be slightly numb in those toes but that’s not a given.

I would bypass physio and see podiatry instead. Ask to see the biomechanics team.

Iambuffy · 21/04/2019 20:13

Thank you
