Absolutely hate my hair.

I just had it highlighted. It was some crazy gone wrong brassy blonde and the hairdresser had to calm it down.

Now it's just some mouse brown.

It's really sort of frizzy. I would love smooth, sleek hair.

Any styling products or tools that could actually make a difference.

I use Clairol big hair but it still looks cack.

You could use a silver shampoo that will make it less brassy

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2019 17:31

Olaplex treatment sorted my hair out. Use it at home once a week. Put it on and leave it half an hour (I do overnight!) and it takes my frizz. A bottle will last me a couple of months.

Cobblersandhogwash · 19/04/2019 17:33

No. The hairdresser has removed the brass. Or does it still look brassy? Great.

Olaplex- will look.

Nodramanollama · 19/04/2019 17:35

Oh sorry i didnt realise that. I dont think it looks brassy but i know silver shampoo brings blonde out.

Processedpea · 19/04/2019 17:35

Min is a bit like this tbh sometimes I like it as it's fuller but use a heated paddle brush to calm it and use redken shampoo and conditioner and anti snap which cab make it sleeker when i can be arsed Smile

Cobblersandhogwash · 19/04/2019 17:39

@Nodramanollama don't worry! 😁

I have fluffy hair and my hairdresser says that’s just the way it is. Sorry.

My hair went like this after having highlights, it totally changed the texture of my hair, it looked shit and I cried.

Olaplex definitely makes a difference, lots of moisture products and if you can lay off the heat, straightners made me look like I'd had a shock for a good few months after.

LumpyPillow · 19/04/2019 17:49

Your hair looks like it would really suit some loose curls/waves. I like the colour personally! You could add more warmth, adding some red or mahogany.

RubyGoat · 19/04/2019 18:05

Try this. This recipe is much loved by many people with extremely long hair, very good for conditioning & reducing frizz.

4 parts conditioner (must be free of silicones & proteins - silicone would cause curdling, proteins would cause breakage). I use Garnier Ultimate Blends, the one in the white & pale pink bottle.
1 part aloe vera gel - Holland & Barratt sell a 99% pure gel
1 part honey

Apply all over the hair, cover with a plastic shower cap (to keep in the moisture). It's a pain to wash out if it dries on. Leave on for 10 mins - a couple of hours. Then shampoo as normal. Or use as a CO-wash if that's your thing. Some people warm it gently in a microwave before applying but I don't bother (& I no longer own a microwave). TBH I don't have long hair any more, but DD does.

FurrySlipperBoots · 19/04/2019 18:08

I don't think it looks too bad at all!

Keratin treatment controls frizz. I've just had my second. The first time it made my hair feel too greasy but this time I'm trying a different shampoo. It's worth looking into? Most places charge the earth but I only spend £70 on mine, and it's meant to last 3 months or so.

CottonSock · 19/04/2019 18:10

Elastic force has made a big difference to my hair

JoyceDivision · 20/04/2019 19:23

Fudge cool brunette shampoo and conditioner will take all red / brassiness out and make it slightly darker / cooler.

Wash your hands after or you look like a corpse.

As did DH when he owned up to using shampoo to wash himself everywhere with Shock

BrilliantYou · 20/04/2019 19:31

You need a good leave in conditioner and John Frieda frizz ease serum (blue bottle). Good blow dry then run straighteners over with a heat protectant spray just to smooth out rather than make it poker straight. John Frieda smoothing serum ( gold bottle) at end to add shine and stop fly always.

Boots usually have John Frieda on 3 for 2. Used to use Kerastese products which are good but I find the frizz ease products just as good and a fraction of the cost.

Lee Stafford purple shampoo is good too but using silver/purple shampoo can dry hair out.

Cobblersandhogwash · 20/04/2019 21:00

Does my hair look so bad?

OP posts:
Floosey · 20/04/2019 21:22

Your hair doesn't look awful. Far from it but you did ask for recommendations to help what you perceived as issues. X

Be careful with honey. It has peroxide in it and can be drying. I know a lot of people love it but it wrecked my hair after one use.

I'd concentrate on lots of moisturing. Coconut oil left on for a few hours works wonders on my hair and finding a decent smoothing cream. I can't recommend one unfortunately.

ChippyTea16 · 21/04/2019 08:45

I have similar thick hair with a wave and it does take effort to get it looking smooth but I would recommend:

-Aussie deep conditioning 3 min treatment
-blow dry with a large (huge!) round brush, blasting with cold air at the end to set
-GHDs to straighten

RickJ · 21/04/2019 09:43

Your hair doesn't look bad at all, it looks beautifully think and shiny. If you are looking for a sleeker look I'd recommend Wow Dream Coat spray. It is similar to a keratin treatment although it lasts a few washes if you're not keen on the effect. It coats the hair so after drying it's straight, glossy and shiny. I also finish mine with a drop of moroccan oil just to tame any flyaways. You can find both on Amazon Smile
