I don't think I understand what serums are. Don't laugh!

Seriously, don't laugh, can someone explain what they're meant to do? When do you use them? I thought they were to super moisture your skin but they just feel odd and I end up washing my face after 5 mins.

I've used Aldi soy serum- felt nice but stung like MF!

Hyorlonic (sp?) Made my skin drier!

The Ordinary Buffet- horrible and and tacky.

I have sensitive skin which is dry around the T zone and feel my skin needs a bit more help sometimes. What should I be using?

I dermaroll about once a week. It hurts a bit but nothing too bad. Makes me sneeze more than anything! I use .5 needles if my skin is feeling delicate and 1. if I want to blast it! 1. defo hurts a bit but you soon get used to it.

The Vichy serum just arrived. It feels gorgeous on the back of my hand, no perfume and non sticky. Can't wait to try it on my face tonightSmile

It's lovely stuff. As close to perfect as possible!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/04/2019 18:45

I used it last night and this morning. Just inspected my face and I'd usually be a bit flaky in the crease of my nose but not today and my make had gone on really nicely too!

Anyone got a recommendation for a light oil, good for sensitive skin? So I can compare the serum with an oil.

I’d recommend Indeed Labs Squalane oil.

HaventGotAllDay · 24/04/2019 19:59

Don't compare serum with oil. Oil goes last, on top of, or instead of, your moisturiser. An added layer of moisturising oomph if you like.
If you've got sensitive skin, maybe start with good old sweet almond, though most oils won't irritate. Rosehip is for youngish skin, just starting to get a few lines, something like argan or avocado for more aged skin.
I have used and liked:
Body Shop oils of life. Fairly cheap for a mix concoction and I've repeat purchased.
L'Occitane Divine. Is. Divine. But is also £££££££s and I treat myself once a year from an airport.
Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate is a kind of oil serum. Smells amazing and also really brightens my skin
Neal's Yard Rose Facial Oil is nice (smells more of geranium than rose though) NY Frankincense is brilliant.

M&S do one that gets good reviews and I like a lot of the Boots Botanics range, so the oil is probably good too.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/04/2019 20:10

I don't want to use almond oil due to allergies. I might try the Boots one and then TBS one of I don't get one with that one. Thanks Smile

I'll look at avacado oil too.

Just been into town and bought Superdrug Vit E Moisture Boost Facial Serum and Vit E Facial Oil. Less than a fiver as I had some points and there was also a BOGO half price.

Have to say from the scientific testing I have carried out so far (on the back of my hand Wink) they both feel fantastic and had great reviews on line. The serum I think will suit me especially as it's very thick.

How do people apply the oil, rub into specific areas or rub into hands and pat on?

update

Right, so I ended up reacting to the Vichy serum, dried me to a crust Sad

Superdrug Vit E stuff - fabulous but the very light perfume makes my eyes sting. Shame as it's lovely stuff.

Last night I had another go with double cleansing with coconut oil and my skin looks really good this morning. Popped down to Waitrose and bought some avacado oil ( if it doesn't work for my skin it tastes delicious,I can put it on salads!)

I've tried it in my hand and it feels great, one hand is smooth and plum the other is dry and wrinkly. REALLY hoping this works !

TheCanterburyWhales · 29/04/2019 13:58

Did you put the hyaluronic onto damp skin? If you put it onto dry it sucks moisture out.
Be careful with the Superdrug vit E oil. I had one once that when you read the ingredients it was more or less like bio-oil (ie mineral oils not natural veg oils)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/04/2019 14:10

Yes,on damp skin, still dried me to a crust!

OP posts:
TheCanterburyWhales · 29/04/2019 14:19

Oh no.
I am 2 weeks in with it and my face feels gorgeous.
(I've nsmechange btw, that's me upthread banging on about it!)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/04/2019 15:32

I've got odd skin Hmm

I'm hopeful that the oils will help,I think might be the way to go.

I have used the No7 protect and perfect serum for years

I think its great

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/04/2019 18:44

I tried the no 7 serum,it made me spotty. I said I had odd skin 😉

I have just cleansed with coconut and dabbed a tiny amount of avacado oil on. Feels good so far and make up has gone on like a dream. Fingers crossed!

Thought the thread title said semen not serum.

Nothing to see here, as you were.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/04/2019 23:20

Sorry to disappoint,I'll try harder next time.

Said the actress to the Bishop Wink

It’s all such utter guff. I can almost imagine the marketing meetings; “How can we persuade women to add one more layer of product to their faces?”. It’s all driven by marketing teams, not scientists.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/04/2019 10:50

Feesh I honestly believe the same but I'd be happy with a solution of it cost £2 or £20,I just need to find something that works as my skin is uncomfortable.

OP posts:
TheCanterburyWhales · 30/04/2019 11:32

Of course most of the products are guff. We've all read Bad Science.
That's why few products recommended on these threads are your Olay/L'Oreal things, whilst products containing actives are more popular.
