Trendy, good quality coat for a daughter starting secondary school, budge £100

Firstly, just to say I've never spent £100 on a school coat for a child before, and wouldn't be but for this specific set of circumstances.

Said circumstances being I gave DD (11) a coat of mine that I outgrew (ahem) it was £100 when I bought it and unfortunately she left it in a well known fast food chain. I called said fast food chain who found it and promised to keep it safe, but a member of staff then disposed of it before we could collect it next day.

Said fast food chain will now replace the coat up to the value of £100 so I need to do this asap and give them the receipt.

DD starts secondary in September, I know this isnt a great time of year to be buying a coat but since we have this unusual budget and it must be spent on a decent coat can anyone recommend a decent brand that will also be cool enough for secondary.

I've always bought boden patterend coats in the past but obvs this is a transition stage for her and I don't want to buy something expensive now that she won't want to be see in come autumn.

Anyone with secondary age kids have any suggestions?

AFAIK it's all about Canada Goose amongst the posh kids DH teaches. However, I've a feeling these may be over £100 and possibly unkind to geese.

At my son's school they all wear black north face kagouls over their Blazers, we live in a big town and despite different coloured uniforms at the different schools they all seem to wear those. Think they're about £65

I'd go for a black puffer style - that's what my 12 year old daughter and all her friends wear

Something like this www.nike.com/gb/t/sportswear-older-parka-8s0Ddg

Thanks for all advice, that Nike coat looks good sanitygirl.

Will double check the uniform quality.

I think I'm just getting in a flap projecting that the one time I have the means to get her a posh coat I'll mess up and get something she'll be teased over. Totally ovethinking this.

Ds2 who is 16 has a version of that Nike coat and he has worn it a lot. Maybe even over his blazer to school. It's worn very well and no teen or pre teen could object to it!

Black puffer coats here too for home but might not get worn for school if there's nowhere to store as they do take up space!

Uniqlo ones are lightweight if that's a likely issue

snoozetastic · 18/04/2019 18:27

Do they wear blazers at her secondary

TantricTwist · 18/04/2019 18:34

They should only need to see the real receipt to then take a copy of it, of which you could already print off at home to save them the fuss and you the bother of waiting around. Then you can return the coat and keep the cash. This is not deceitful (just practical) as they owe you £100 for the previous coat.

The fashion for girls round here is black or khaki parkas. I would see what people are wearing.

Superdry, hollister and jack wills passé here. Was “in” for a good few years, maybe going back six/eight years ago? Girls seem to wear jackets with big furry hoods now. Not sure if there is a specific brand that is favoured. Fashion is fickle, buy the £100 jacket from next, return with gift receipt, then buy jacket of your daughters choice in the autumn.
