Microblading

I'm so tempted by this but put off by the idea of having to leave the house during the healing period and going to work looking ridiculous. If you've done it, how long before you didn't feel self conscious about going outside? When do they start to look normal? Thank you!

Mine were done 12 days ago; they're at the patchy stage now but getting there. I deliberately put off having my fringe trimmed to hide the healing stage so have got around it by concealing them!!

Nightlights · 16/04/2019 08:49

Eek 12 days?! When were they leave-the-house-able?

OP posts:
DeadCertain · 16/04/2019 09:09

They were very dark for a few days, then started to flake off at around days 5 - 7 I would say (nothing awful, just like dry skin) and are patchy T present but looking much better.

VanCleefArpels · 16/04/2019 12:21

Look at @stealmystyle40 on Instagram- she has just had hers done, looks really good and she’s not hidden inside!

Buffyann · 16/04/2019 12:25

I didn't feel like I had to stay inside at any point, just found the flaky skin at day 7 to 14 annoying, was so tempted to pick and peel the skin! These were straight after the treatment. I go for my top up soon.

Wow they look great @Buffyann!

Will check out that Instagram link now @VanCleefArpels thank you!

@VanCleefArples, yes, came here to say stealmystyle40 too. They look very good. They're a bit light but I think she's having them darkened slightly when she goes back. They're a very good shape.

SionnachGeal70 · 16/04/2019 13:30

Mine only look bad the first day - red and puffy around them and obviously too dark and shiny. The first night I slather them with Bepanthen and sleep with cling film tied over the top. Then the next day they look okay, too dark like I've overdone the brow makeup, but no one would notice. I've been having it done for three years and no one has ever noticed - or at least no one has ever said!

(Your brows look fab Buffyann.)

Buffyann · 17/04/2019 15:03

Thank you @Nightlights @SionnachGeal70 they have faded a bit since that photo, but the top up should sort that out

nightlights · 23/04/2019 06:49

One more question! I don't know anybody who can recommended somebody to me but have found somebody who has lots of good reviews via Facebook. They only have a Facebook site for the business so no other website etc. How do you tell somebody is reputable? Is a Facebook only site normal?

OP posts:
ReginaGeorgeous · 23/04/2019 09:09

@nightlights the lady who does my eyebrows only has a Facebook page for her business, it's not uncommon in the beauty industry so don't let the lack of a fancy website put you off.

Book a consultation and you will get a feel for whether the therapist is reputable when you meet them.
I had a free 30 minute consultation when I had my microblading. I was shown her portfolio of previous work and shown the room in her salon where it would be done, which looked clean and hygienic and I could see that the needles to be used were sterile, single use, and would be disposed of properly in a sharps box.

The procedure was explained to me, along with aftercare. I'm sure you'll be aware that you have a top up 4-6 weeks after the initial microblading, my therapist was honest and said some people need more than one top up depending on their skin type, but she didn't charge any more for extra top ups.

There was no hard sell at all, she explained that its like choosing an artist for any other kind of tattooing - their work will sell itself. I came away from my consultation feeling like I was in safe hands and I have been really pleased with the results.

Don't go to anybody who doesn't insist upon a patch test.

Nightlights · 23/04/2019 09:20

@ReginaGeorgeous thanks that's helpful! She does do a patch test and has answered lots of questions via messenger. But she said a pre consultation usually isn't required and that she discusses all of that in in appointment and makes sure I'm happy with the planned size and shape etc before going ahead. I really want to do it but am so nervous about taking the plunge!

OP posts:
ReginaGeorgeous · 23/04/2019 09:38

She should spend a lot of time measuring your eyebrows and drawing out your shape with a sharp eyebrow pencil, this is what takes most of the time. It is a bit scary but mine have honestly transformed my face. Just be aware that the day after, they'll look dark and huge and you'll wonder what you've done to your face, this is normal and will calm down once the swelling and scabbing have gone down Smile

Nightlights · 23/04/2019 09:42

@ReginaGeorgeous Yes she does draw them like that, God I hope she does a good job! Did the darkness calm down after the second day?

OP posts:
ReginaGeorgeous · 23/04/2019 09:53

The swelling did by the next day, the darkness gradually lightened over about ten days. Its just where the ink mixes with the blood and scabs over. They flake off gradually, I had an aftercare balm that was like vaseline, I had to apply twice a day with a cotton bud and loose bits of scab would come away when I did that.

ReginaGeorgeous · 23/04/2019 09:57

@nightlights This is my before and after pic

Nightlights · 23/04/2019 10:05

@ReginaGeorgeous Oh they look amazing!!

OP posts:
whyohwhyowhydididoit · 23/04/2019 14:20

I didn’t find it too bad. I was aware that they were heavier than I wanted at first but I just kept my fringe brushed forwards and no one else saw anything amiss.

I agree that I wouldn’t go to anyone who didn’t insist on a patch test.

I have attached the before and after of mine taken from the practitioners face book page. It’s nearly 6 months ago now and they still look great. I will definitely have them topped up when they start to fade.

Oh wow @whyohwhyowhydididoit what a difference! It looks like real hair

OP posts:
Nightlights · 23/04/2019 14:33

I've seen the PhiBrows symbol a few times - the lady I'm considering doesn't use that and I can't find anybody close that does. I'm not sure what the difference is between PhiBrows and bog standard microblading but it does look good!

OP posts:
TantricTwist · 23/04/2019 14:38

Buffyann yours look amazing because they aren't squared off towards the bridge of your nose, instead they are naturally slightly thinned out, they have been expertly done imho.

whyohwhyowhydididoit · 23/04/2019 14:48

I think Phibrows is a brand name for the inks/blades she uses and training academy she went to. The process is still microblading.

It hurts quite a lot. Take a paracetamol beforehand, ( not aspirin!).
