DD is 10 and I want to get her into looking after her skin. She already has hair that gets quite greasy and I'm worried she will start getting spots. I had terrible skin from the age of 12 onwards, not actual acne but very spotty!

I'm wondering d what I could get her to start using as a preventative and get her into good skin care habits. Is there any point using spot prevention now?

i would get her started using
simple facial wash, then simple toner
and finally aloe green tea moisturiser
it establishes a good facial routine for later on and should help prevent spots later on. if she does get any, pop a blob of sudocrem on them at nightime and that should help them disappear. all the best x

also for her hair you could try nettle shampoo, which seemed to help my dds hair x

Similar to sleep I would suggest a very gentle routine. You’re probably already familiar, but harsh/abrasive cleaners aimed at tackling spots can often irritate and make it worse. Right now it sounds like your DD doesn’t have any skin concerns, so it’s more about taking care and getting into the habit of caring for skin.

I would go for a gentle cleanser and moisturiser, both non-comedogenic. I’ve always had skin issues although much better as an adult, I use Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser and the daily moisturiser from the same company which has SPF 50. This works really well for me in keeping skin cleanser without causing breakouts.

For spot treatment/management, I use The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2%, very good price and I don’t react at all to it (whereas most spot cleansers with salicylic I have tried I’ve found to be really drying and sometimes cause my skin to sting). Perhaps get her started with a gentle cleansing routine for good habits, and if she does develop any issues later like spots then introduce a product like the The Ordinary one I’ve mentioned rather than switching to a harsh set.

Oh and also agree that Sudocrem is great Grin
