Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner has dried out....

Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative to this?

Ive been using the shade 'violet ink', so a similar colour is needed!
This one was fantastic to start with, but quickly dried out in the pot despite me keeping the lid on, scraping dry surface off, etc.etc. For that reason, I wont be purchasing. A dupe that also dries out is fine, if it is significantly cheaper. So much expensive wastage with the Bobbi Brown one, I must have scraped £18 worth out of the pot!!!

Beautypie do a dupe www.beautypie.com/eyes/eyeliner

Haven't used it though. I'm not sure how much cheaper it will work out once you factor in membership. Worth it if you fancy trying other bits and pieces or get a promo code. I like their make up brushes and lip colours.

Gel pencils work better for me. Don’t laugh but Avon Glimmersticks are brilliant, loads of colours and you can pick them up for a couple of quid on eBay.

I’ve given up on gel eyeliners and shadows in pots. They all seem to dry out whether they cost £20 or £2. I agree the Avon glimmer sticks are very good.

I'm very unimpressed with Bobbi Brown in general. Maybelline eye gel in a pot is fantastic and comes with its own eyeliner brush which is so good,it's the only thing that gets a perfect line every single time. About £7 iirc.

I got a good tip from a Bobbi Brown consultant - you can revive the dried up gel eyeliner by mixing in a drop of their Cleansing Oil. It works, and although the cleansing oil is quite pricey it's a nice cleanser and lasts for ages.

Agree the Maybelline one is just as good, but they only do the three colours and only the brown one suits me. I wish they would branch out into more colours because it's a great formula.

Definitely checking out the Avon liners - and will see if I can get a sample of the Bobbi Brown oil. Thanks for the tip!

Buy a bottle of Duraline - made by Inglot it costs about 6 quid I think and if you add a couple of drops to any dried out gel product it will revive it. I also use it on my Anastasia dip brow. Works a treat and cheap as chips. It also makes everything waterproof (as this is what it's for, it's a waterproof coating for liner).
I would imagine adding cleansing oil to gel would prevent it from setting once applied - so it would smudge? Never tried it tho.

Thank you! I've googled Duraline and it looks great - you can do things with it other than just revive gel, like add it to a powder to make a liquid liner.

If you have liquid glycerine in the house, a drop or two will help moisten the dried up liner.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 16/04/2019 11:05

I expect any oil would work. I also have some dried out Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner that I haven’t got round to throwing out so will try mixing it with my cheap boots cleansing oil!

emsyj37 · 16/04/2019 17:41

Yes, you can make any powder shadow into a waterproof liner. It's great stuff!

pierpressure · 16/04/2019 17:47

The assistant in Bobbi Brown told me that a lipsalve stick works to get it fluid enough to use. Not sure if it would make it more smudgy though

Volluto · 18/04/2019 18:33

I melted mine slightly in the microwave to get more use from it.

NigellasGuest · 18/04/2019 18:39

I tried adding a little cleansing oil today, and that seemed to work. Didn't bring it quite back to the original state but made it a bit more useable!
