tuxedo for a woman

Style and beauty experts can you help me? Looking to wear the full works - so a tuxedo jacket, dress shirt and trousers for women. Not too many £££ which rules out some of the gorgeous ones - and I can't find anything in the more medium price brackets! Oh and none of your white jackets either - looking for black!

Is this a tall order? I'm surprised it isn't more standard these days, but it seems not. (Moss Bros don't seem to hire women's gear - is that right?)

Do some women buy men's/boys and then get them altered?

If anyone can help I will be most grateful! Thanks in advance,

I got my daughter a gorgeous ladies black satin tuxedo suit in the Next sale.

My sister recently went to a 007 themed party and decided to go as Mr Bond. I bought her a tuxedo from Zara. She looked great! I think the whole suit was about £100.
Good luck.

Oh yes elfride I think I saw the satin one, that was lovely. Looking for something a bit plainer here - though I realise there probably isn't much demand for a straightforward one.

I have had a look at Zara as well Ispeak, but could only see a white tuxedo (though they do have the black trousers, but aiming for a match!)

If the plain look isn't available in women's, do people think men's/boys' with alterations could work or is the absence of darts insuperable?

Zara's tailoring is generally fab, and Karen Millen's is lovely, too. The thing I always do with tailoring, though, is take it to a seamstress and have her tailor it 'more' so it fits flawlessly. It adds a little to the price but takes high street staples to a whole new level and means I spend less buying more clothes in a bid for something perfect.

If you went for a mens/boys suit do the same thing and have it tailored. Obviously it'll be cut differently so it depends on your body shape as to how it'll fit, but a good tailor should be able to make it look great.

I bought DD a Zara tux a couple of months ago, black with a black (satin?) stripe down the leg. She's just had it tailored for a better fit, the tailor was surprised that the quality was so good for a high street brand.

Thanks again! Yes alterations are likely to be necessary anyway, and I agree they make a huge difference.

Hmm, Zara defintely only seemed to have the white tux jacket at the moment, maybe if I hang on a bit they might add black back.

I'll have a look at Karen Millen as well.

So, I've had a look and doesn't seem to be a Karen Millen tuxedo at the moment. Very grateful for any info on any other women's tuxedo stockists!

But maybe it's not a particularly big thing - slightly to my surprise I must admit, as I thought it was quite usual for women to wear them these days. Perhaps they all just buy men's/boys and get them altered - which may be the simplest approach!

I saw the black one in Zara Manchester this week, I thought it was gorgeous . And I’m not always sold on Zara , but the quality was really nice x

Fenn Wright Manson have a nice black one which is currently on sale. The style is called Darling.

I saw the Zara black tuxedo in store this week, this is confusingly not called a tux on the website. But also comes in off-white and red. And they have another white double breasted tux on their website currently.
