Curly girl method for a year and greasy roots on day 2

Been doing CGM for a year. Hair is much more consistently curly where as previously I never knew if my hair was going to be curly, wavy or straight and meh from one day to the next.

Lots of trial and error and the best products I’ve found as yet are: co-wash with As I Am coconut co-wash which I love (co-washing with a standard conditioner makes my hair absolutely disgusting!) use a Giovanni leave-in conditioner (which is ok - I think my hair is low-porosity so I have to use v light conditioners) and Umberto Gianni scrunch jelly (looks lovely when first styled but drops throughout the day).

My main problem is that the following day, my roots (particularly around my ears) look really greasy. The hair there is all strandy and eugh. I see all these women with beautiful bouncy curls on the CGM FB page who manage not to wash their hair for 4,5,6 days , just refresh it, and it looks lovely. What am I doing wrong?

All the advice says that you get greasy hair through the transition stage but surely I’m well past that?

I’m so gutted as I really thought I was for once on my way to lovely hair but I can’t seem to master it. Any tips?

Want to try some of the products recommended here - definitely like the sound of the Trepadora Goji berry mint rinse for clarifying but when it comes to a co wash, I'm not sure whether to go for the Boucleme Curl Cleanser or Trepadora Clay wash? Or the tea tree As I Am?

Only thing I'm thinking is that the As I Am Tea Tree and Boucleme have coconut oil in - and I'm wondering if the coconut in the original As I Am co wash (which I use at the moment) is one of the things that makes my curls drop? Argh, decisions!!

My hair was lovely and curly this morning after co-washing and some Umberto Giannini gel...but by late morning, it had all dropped out :(

Try dropping the leave in - it can make hair for dull especially if you don't have tight curls. In fact I don't use conditioner at all unless I clarify - I was my hair with Devacurl Loo poo delight. A gelatin protein treatment has helped my hair look more healthy and moisturised - flaxseed gel makes my hair feel great too!.

Thanks @Notinmyduty. Did you use a deep conditioner after the gelatin treatment? And did you make the gelatin treatment yourself?

I used normal conditioner after the gelatin treatment - I don't usually condition and I don't have a deep conditioner - that's something I might look into for after the clarifying stage. So I made the gelatine treatment with gelatine & de-ionised water, then mixed in argon oil and mashed banana. Lots of recipes on here
