Spots after facial waxing

I thought I'd found a face wash routine that worked - hadn't had spots for about two months and was feeling very smug... but then I had my eyebrows and upper lip waxed which caused breakouts in these areas Sad

Does anyone else get this, and know how to prevent it? Or are hairy vs. spotty my only options? I have blonde hair otherwise I'd laser them all off.

I don't know the answer but I had this after my first wax 2 months ago so watching with interest.

Yes, I had this when I had my upper lip waxed. So I now I just use tweezers.

I had this about the first 3 lip waxes but never after.

I used a lemongrass after wax soother and stuck with it.

It was more an initial reaction/sensitivity little dots and spots than actual spots though

If it happens within 24 hours it’s a histamine reaction but if it’s after 3 - 4 days it’s bacterial.

I take antihistamines just before I get threading and this nearly totally deals with the spots, instead of getting 10ish spots I only get 1 usually.

That's interesting, pinegreen

It was definitely within 24 hours, I had the appointment in the morning and could feel a spot coming by the evening. I will try antihistamines next time and report back!

I got this then switched to threading and it’s kuch better now.

I'm not a waxing regular but aren't you suppose to refrain from applying creams etc to the waxed area for 24 hours? Obviously not including anything that is designed to be used after waxing. Isn't it something to do with the open hair follicles/pores that waxing creates?

IAmFourEels · 12/04/2019 10:47

The problem is that threading is PURE TORTURE

I get this with uper lip waxing, I find applying tea tree oil after waxing helps

ATowelAndAPotato · 12/04/2019 14:44

I read somewhere that it was because waxing opens up your pores and so you are more prone to bacteria getting in and causing spots. I use a post wax wipe, then wash with my usual cleanser to remove the oily residue and use a toner to help close the pores. It goes against all advice not to use anything after to you wax but it seems to help me.
Interested to hear that anti-histamine may help and will try this next time instead.
