Advice on how to care for new tattoo please?

DS have gotten himself a small tattoo last night. He's wanting advice on how to care for it. Tatooist said just put E45 cream on it, then he started googling and got loads of conflicting advice on there. Any tips please from people who've had tattoos done?

Yeah doublebase or E45 are a sgood as any gimmick creams, the tattoo needs to be moisturised that way the scab won't be be to severe, that's what the ink is being protected by

Clean it and wrap it in cling film for 48 hours, changing and cleaning it every few hours and applying moisterising cream. Cocoa butter is a great cream for it, you can use e45 but it’s not quite as good. Don’t soak it in water for 2 weeks (so no baths or swimming), showers are fine. If it starts scanning and peeling don’t pick or scratch it, just let the skin flake off naturally. Keep it out of the sun.
Apply the cream to it until it is fully healed, usually takes about 3-4 weeks.

*SCABBING and peeling, that’s meant to say.

Go with the tattooists advice as there is a lot of different advice with pros and cons for wrapping/open healing but if the ink degrades or is damaged and you've done the opposite they are under no obligation to touch it up or fix it.

Mine advises open healing, quick rinse in the shower using warm running water but not directed at the site, plenty of applications of a small amount of unscented moisturiser, no scratching/rubbing and loose clothing until the scabs have crusted and start to fall off.

Again, varies but mine were all fully healed within 14 days.

When I got mine I wad told to rinse in the shower and put bepanthen cream on it. Cling film only to be in place for a few hours after the tattoo and then to be removed

Fuzzysocksies · 11/04/2019 08:17

Cling film is definitely one of those argued points, but I’d advise it for at least 24 hours, I’ve healed 20+ tattoos with this method and never had a single problem.

Bepanthen has changed its recipe and now isn't advised. My tattooist says just leave it alone no cream or anything no soaking in water.

Thank you for all your tips

Last one I had used a product called Hustle Butter, got it from the tattooist.

I use a little tub of ultra moisturiser from Lush and take the clingfilm off after 4 hours or so. Worked for 20+ tattoos perfectly.

DH was given "Tattoo Goo" for his - they healed really well.
