How many of you wear shirts to work?

How many of you wear shirts to work? What's your reason for that. What shirts/brands do you prefer? And links, if possible.

I know nowadays shirts are no longer popular among women, even among professional women. But I still love my shirts from Thomas Pink. I have dozens of them. In my opinion, they make the best women's shirts in the world.

Interesting that despite being women's shirts, they do up the men's way (which according to Esme on the Great British Sewing Bee still matters).

And "bengal stripe cocktail" is a particular misnomer!

Do you work for Thomas Pink? Grin

Don't you have to put #ad on these sorts of things now...

Djangor3725 · 11/04/2019 12:01

I am a shirt addict. Sizing for these seems very generous. I get TM Lewin shirts myself for work - used to have Charles Tyrwhitt but sadly they gave up doing womenswear. Jaeger outlet has also been great for shirts. Fabric quality for Uniqlo & Boden shirts seems to have plummeted over the last few years, H&M do better fabric quality but fit is often odd - think they don't cope at all well with curves, Pure Collection has some nice shirts nowadays - they used to have rather large collars but are much better now. My favourite shirts come from Brora - fit as though they are made for me & gorgeous fabrics; I treat myself once or twice a year from their clearance sale.

SrSteveOskowski · 11/04/2019 12:35

God no, I hate them. Stiff and uncomfortable and make up on the collar not matter how much I try to keep it clean. 5 years of being forced to wear one in school was more than enough thank you.

managedmis · 11/04/2019 12:36

Crikey, are you Mrs. Pink?

Monty27 · 11/04/2019 12:37

I used to but got pissed off ironing them.

notacooldad · 11/04/2019 12:40

No, far too formal for my job.
I would feel overdressed even going into multi agency meetings with one on!
Not my style.

CountFosco · 11/04/2019 18:57

I wear silk shirts to work. The drape is far more flattering for an hourglass than cotton.

StillNotMe · 11/04/2019 19:39

Trying to fit a shirt over a 36FF bust is impossible so no, I do not wear them.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 11/04/2019 19:40

Rarely. GG bosoms see to that.

TipseyTorvey · 11/04/2019 19:46

Another FF - Shirts are unflattering and uncomfortable. Blouses with no collars that drip dry and don't need ironing all the way here. There was another thread today about how no one wears suits any more. Ditto for shirts thank god!

DovePetal · 11/04/2019 19:51

I live in silk shirts from &Other Stories

It’s a no from me too.....

My boobs are too big for shirts.

bluebellation · 11/04/2019 21:24

I have a couple of Cos shirts - the material's lovely and they wash really well.

Mesmeri · 11/04/2019 21:25

I used to wear white shirts for work, it was part of a uniform. They did supply some, but I usually bought my own from next or gap as they were a more flattering fit. Also, I believe Pepperberry at Bravissimo does flattering shirts for larger chested ladies.

dementedma · 11/04/2019 21:27

I'd like to but hard to get one that fits nicely over boobs and tummy

Wauden · 11/04/2019 21:28

Pepperberry makes shirts for bigger boobs. The shop used to be part of Bravissimo.

Ivegotthree · 11/04/2019 21:29

I think Thomas Pink are very outdated OP but if you work for them maybe you don't mind that. I think sort of Sloane girl trying to get a job in the City 20 years ago.

My favourite new shirt is from Arket.

Inliverpool1 · 11/04/2019 21:38

Gee 90’s flash backs

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 11/04/2019 21:51

Silk shirts from J Lewis are my go to.

fiorentina · 12/04/2019 08:45

I wear shirts from Cos or other Stories sometimes as well as some from H&M. I do mix it up though as also wear skirts and tops and dresses.

MadameDD · 12/04/2019 11:27

When I wasn't pregnant I only wore shirts/blouses to work if I either was off to an interview, had meetings or wanted to look smarter.

Thomas Pink/TM Lewin smarter cotton shirts for super smart when I worked in law firms, and variety of Oasis colourful pattern and Warehouse synthetic pastels blouse top for a mix. Also have a lovely smart but sophisticated Karen Millen shirt/blouse - white/ivory. I did buy a couple of cheap H&M patterned blouses/shirts for interviews too - worked very well for interviews at big 4 accountants.

TipseyTorvey - quite a few women do wear suits nowadays - at least in London and certainly in law firms/accountants - I see a few trouser and skirt suit combos on women. Quite a few wear smart dresses but have noticed suits too.

My colleague who's a DD in central government so has to be smart often wears colourful shirts/blouses to meetings with trousers. She gets the smart vibe across but also keeps her personality. she like Cos and other brands.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 12/04/2019 11:32

Really Thomas pink shirt are horrible. For both sexes. They look like something Uncle Monty would wear back in the 80s. My favourite men’s shirts are ted baker but I can’t find any similarly nice women’s ones. It doesn’t help that my breasts don’t fit in most shirts.
