i hate my hair......and what shape is my face?!

TheLuckyMrsPine · 10/04/2019 14:18

Please help,

Have recently aged suddenly in a short period of time and have lost a lot of hair, skin looks awful, put on a lot of weight etc....

Can’t help but think my hair is not doing me any favours anymore. I am trying to grow it out from a short one length bob.

It’s now very thin/fine, gets very greasy —like my skin— .

Should I go for a different colour or style. It’s very difficult to change colour from blonde and I don’t have unlimited funds either.

I also don’t know what my face shape is which makes it hard to look at Pinterest ideas. Can anyone help?

Self esteem is really suffering at the moment, so I may have just become fixated on the hair. I know it’s not all about looks but it does help make me feel better if I look nice, however shallow that is.

I have a rather “Roman” nose if that information is required!

How about using a regular treatment on your hair? I have a similar length and texture to yours and i'm always amazed at what overnight castor oil can do for it. Once the thickness and shine issue is sorted, maybe getting some waves put in would help?

notacooldad · 10/04/2019 14:25

Why not get a hairdresser to help.
They will be able Tom come with a length that suits you and will work best for the condition and texture of your hair. If you have some idea of what you want e.g. Keep some length or up for anything, easy to manage, look trendy that will give them a guide.

Babynamess · 10/04/2019 17:17

Ruffle do you put it on dry or wet?

TheLuckyMrsPine · 10/04/2019 18:08

notacooldad I was kind of hoping for some advice on here - obviously I could ask my hairdresser but would like some idea before I go so I can discuss with her cost/ appointment time etc.

Please mumsnet help.....

What about a balayage or ombré type colour on your hair? I have a balayage colour and it’s great because the brown matches my natural colour so roots are not visible as my hair grows and I can go a long time without getting my hair coloured so it’s very cosy-effective.
And maybe some subtle layering on your hair?

Veterinari · 10/04/2019 18:14

Avoid silicone shampoos or conditioners with fine hair - the coating makes it lank and greasy

Jellybean100 · 10/04/2019 18:16

Definitely agree with balayage, softer tones put through your hair. I’d probably try a parting more to one side because I hate a middle parting on me but because we can’t see your face I can’t say whether that suits you or not. Also make sure you’re taking a regular multivitamin maybe that’s why your hair and skin is suffering a bit.

notacooldad · 10/04/2019 18:20

Fair enough. I was just trying to be helpful as a hairdresser will see what condition your hair is in.,how your part line falls, the thickness of it to what style will hold as well as see your build and personal stye so will get a whole view of you.
Sorry it was duff advice.

GimmeBread · 10/04/2019 18:24

How's your diet MrsPine? I only ask because I had dreadfully thin hair for a good few years until I found out that I had Coeliac Disease. I wasn't absorbing nutrients from my food and it may have been going on for years before diagnosis. it wasn't until I came off gluten and my gut started healing that my hair massively improved. It's much thicker and in really good condition. I was also able to stop washing it every day - now it's about 2/3 times a week. Before that I had to wash it every day as it was so lank.

GimmeBread · 10/04/2019 18:27

I can't comment on your face shape as I don't know what mine is! But my rule of thumb is if you don't know, then it's oval! Heart shaped and round faces are more obvious.

Amongstthetallgrass · 10/04/2019 18:29

You have an heart shaped face like me! In fact that pic could be me! I’m just hitting 40 and decided to sort myself out.

Keep your hair colour as you have nice skin tone. Get a trim to sort the ends out. Have you thought about getting your eye brows done? I had mine micro blades and it totally changed my face! (I think I look youngerGrin) I got some retinol serum and that’s brightened my face up too.

What about getting a side parting or a fringe? I’m toying with getting a fringe that sits on my eye brows. I really liked this hair style the other day on tv

I like your hair!

Processedpea · 10/04/2019 18:34

I would get a longer layered fringe cut in the get the hairderessr to put on a toner to gloss and tone down usually about 20

Amara123 · 10/04/2019 18:36

Side part, with side sweepy fringe. I'd bring some low lights of your natural colour through the blonde to create texture. When I'm that blonde I need to wear a ton of makeup to carry it.

abcriskringle · 10/04/2019 18:41

I have a similar shaped face and prefer slightly longer hair as I find it more flattering. I'd get a trim to keep it healthy and then invest in some really nice shampoo and conditioner plus I love Argan oil to smooth on my hair when it's wet (it smells divine and feels nourishing) to encourage your hair to grow and strengthen. Also a glass of milk a day always helps my hair and nails! Then when it's a bit longer you also have a few more options for styling etc.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 10/04/2019 19:55

Thank you everyone, you have all given some great advice - especially the fringe idea!

I have had a fringe before and liked it, and could wear it to one side too which perhaps made everything look better. I was worried about having it redone as thought it may make my hair look even thinner.

Sorry notacooldad you did give good advice, I was just trying to say that I was after some suggestions. Thank you though.

Gimmebread I think I will have to take a trip to the doctors, I have had periods of trying to avoid gluten as do get very bloated....my hair comes out in handful when I wash it recently - I think that there must be a reason for this!

amongst yes that’s the winner of the voice Molly Hocking - I have been Instagram stalking her hair Blush and I do love the sort of messy, undone style that she has.

drifting thank you!

amara you’re right I also always look like I am not wearing makeup as I don’t think I am heavy handed enough with it.

Thanks katniss I have got some Aveda dry oil which I have been trying to use on the ends. Recently my hairdresser has been using Olaplex when colouring, and I did prefer it when it was shoulder length but it was thicker then.

@TheLuckyMrsPine

I'd be more worried about your health.

If you are losing hair and putting on weight have you thought of having your thyroid checked? Dry skin is another sign of underactive thyroid.

Or...are you in peri meno? weight gain and hair loss can be due to low estrogen. Or..it can also be due to anaemia- hair loss, that is.

Have you thought of seeing your GP for some tests?

TheLuckyMrsPine · 10/04/2019 21:38

Yes jingling will visit GP although I have exceptionally oily skin, and did have blood tests/ thyroid checked last year. ...deficiency in vitamin d but only minor apparently

Hope not in peri-menopause as only 38! Nothing else to suggest that is the case.

Amara123 · 11/04/2019 22:52

Could I also suggest if you wanted to look at makeup too, Estée Lauder have great colours for someone as fair as you (and me!- we are v similar!). Their foundation and blush would suit you. The naked palette 2 eye shades would also work. I think your hair is a really nice length, you have plenty to work with!

Milliy · 11/04/2019 23:07

I love your hair.

RuffleCrow · 12/04/2019 07:54

babynamess i just put a thin layer on dry hair before i go to bed, massage in then wash out in the morning.

Iooselipssinkships · 12/04/2019 10:48

I love your hair! It's really nice. A fringe would definitely work but keep the rest as it is!!

dontgobaconmyheart · 12/04/2019 11:18

Your hair is nice OP! It's hard to tell your true face shape with your hair down and face blurred out but I think you'd suit a side parting much more than a middle parting. Middle parting's tend to exaggerate width on the face and make it look wider at the bottom. If your face isn't symmetrical either they're hard to pull off IMO.

I'd go for a long side swept fringe, conditioner/treatment on the ends only, use dry shampoo to control oil at the roots and add volume.

emma6776 · 12/04/2019 16:51

I love your hair - it looks in really good condition to me & the colour is fab, no greys or brassiness, basically the holy grail of blond!

TheLuckyMrsPine · 14/04/2019 20:21

Thank you everyone, maybe I have just become fixated on the hair..... I think it’s actually my face that may be the real problem Grin

I am very pale and think I need more make up with my pale son and hair, thanks Amara I will have a look at EL counter next time in town
