Help for a spray tan novice

I had my first spray tan earlier. Apparently I can wash it off before I go to bed as it has to stay on to develop for 6-8 hours (it's sienna x if that makes any difference?).

By my reckoning, the earliest I can wash it off will be 11pm but I'm tired. I really don't think staying up to shower at 11pm is likely tonight so am I OK to sleep in it and shower in the morning or will I look like shrek by then?

Also, if the tan has been on for nearly 6 hours when I go to bed, are long sleeves and pyjama trousers essential by then to stop it rubbing off where my skin touches together?

I think you will be fine. I have spray tans pretty regularly and always sleep in them, it will only develop for so long. It will go on your sheets but will wash out.

Thanks. So I don't have to sleep with my arms and legs covered as it will have stopped developing by then? Not sure my menopausal self could stand pyjamas.

No I wouldn't bother, your sheets will be disgusting in the morning but don't panic it does come out!Grin
I slapped some on myself one night and went straight to bed when I woke up in the morning I was lovely and brown except for the white line from the corner on my mouth to chin where I'd obviously dribbled in my sleep, not a good look!!Shock

Is it rapid or fast tan?

poppym12 · 09/04/2019 21:16

It's the normal one that you're stood in a tent for while the therapist sprays you. She definitely said 6-8 hours to develop.

So it looks OK on my body, neck and face but my arms and legs are patchy (left arm slightly golden but right arm not tanned). What can I do to even it up?

Also, not liking the tanned armpits or palms and fingernails. I thought a professional spray tan would look better than me slathering it on myself. Obviously not.

Depends who’s doing it and the prep.

What prep did she tell you do?

poppym12 · 10/04/2019 12:01

Exfoliate and moisturise the night before but just shower beforehand.

Next time exfoliate, shower and moisturise with an oil free product 24 hrs beforehand.

Just wipe off deodorant using a wipe pre tan as it can go green.

You shouldn't have orange palms etc so maybe try another therapist next time.

I hadn't put deodorant on. The tan just looks really unnatural in my armpits. My moisturiser is aloe based.

I've got various tans at home so I'll try to even my arms and legs up as I'm going away tomorrow. Will also paint my nails and scrub my palms.
