Do any women wear suits any more? Calling lawyers and other professionals

I went into a professional career as a graduate 10+ years ago and used to wear suits - all the trainees did.

I’ve now had a baby and work in a less formal environment.

I’m going through my wardrobe and having a clear out and wondered if it’s worth keeping suits? I have some nice ones (Reiss etc) but they are all at least 6 years old. Although classic styles.

My current job doesn’t require them, but if I moved jobs is it possible I would need them again?

I do go into the City for work and seems to me that even the female lawyers etc are wearing dresses with jackets now rather than actual suits?

Is women in suits a thing of the past?

I used to wear skirt or trouser suits when working in school but don’t in my retirement FE job. I charity shopped my suits after a couple of years because even “classic” styles date so quickly. I hung on to one beautiful Spanish made suit from the poshest local boutique because it still looks really good, but I have no idea when I’ll wear it, if ever.

Completely off topic but there's a charity that takes suits etc to give to women who have eg fled domestic abuse, are starting again from scratch and need clothes for interview. If you were going to give your suits to a charity shop, maybe these guys would be more appreciative?

didireallysaythat yes I’ve donated some of mine to a local charity which is supporting unemployed people getting back into work - the premise being its hard to have suitable office dress if you’ve been out of work for a while.
The suit is loaned for an interview then if they’re successful they can keep it. I thought it was an excellent idea.

Similar here. I think it's actually throwing yet another job at working women though - blokes can basically buy 2 decent suits, second set of trousers for each, 2 pairs of shoes, a few ties and 5-10 matching shirts and be done for YEARS.

Women now need to faff about working out which dresses suit, then coordinating shoes and the lot. Many of the senior women where I work now use stylists for shopping as they don't have time, and it's a bit of a minefield...

Best place to get these suits from is Etsy. You need to know your bust, waist, hip measurements and then just search for "50s skirt suit" or "New Look skirt suit" or similar 😊 also rate Blackout II in Covent Garden for good midcentury wear.

@stuck or you can just get another type of formula wardrobe and just wear that. i exclusively wear black ties, a dress or skirt/top and a black jacket. I told the guys in my office I had been wearing the same jacket for 3 days a week for the last 2 years (only work 3 days) and not a single one had noticed.
