Can you recommend a facial spf?

After falling off the wagon over the winter, I'm making a renewed effort to use spf every day on my face.

I wondered if anyone could recommend a nice Factor 30 that doesn't sit on the surface of the skin? The 2 i've tried this month (Soltan and Piz buin) leave me feeling a little bit greasy.

Thanks.

Heliocare 360 airgel - fab under makeup, Trinny approved!

Lamentations · 08/04/2019 14:03

Unless you are on a beach holiday you don't really want a sun cream because, as you have found, it will be too greasy.

You can either buy a stand alone SPF (Clarins and The Body Shop do really good ones) or use a moisturiser with SPF.

I am currently using and liking Your Good Skin day cream SPF 30 (Boots own range but highly rated by industry types). I also really like the Cerave SPF 25 moisturiser and the Nivea Age Spot SPF 30 one.

Try one of the Korean or Japanese ones, like Biore or Etude House. Totally different texture to our goopy creams. They go on like watery essence and make quite good primer for foundation.

Sunsense spf 50
Brilliant. I use the tinted one and it’s like a primer

VanCleefArpels · 08/04/2019 17:57

Moisturiser with spf would have to be trowelled in to give the protection you need (see Wayne Goss video on this). Better to use stand alone spf which is not watered down

Lamentations · 08/04/2019 18:11

VanCleef that's interesting could you link the video please?

2pointfourmonkeys · 08/04/2019 18:18

@VanCleefArpels @Lamentations yes, that's what I understood hence using the face specific spfs. Moisturiser with spf isn't broad spectrum so doesn't give the same protection. And in some cases a decent serum and spf can remove the need for moisturiser altogether I believe.

This one is brilliant: www.laroche-posay.co.uk/anthelios-shaka-ultra-light-spf50

I got it on offer at Boots the other week, really light and sinks in fast

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 08/04/2019 18:55

I also have the la Roche one.

Laquila · 08/04/2019 20:32

I like the Bioré Watery Essence but does have alcohol in it and can be a bit drying.

2pointfourmonkeys · 08/04/2019 20:33

Thanks @Cakemonger. Inactually looked at these in boots yesterday but ended up going for the piz buin because i like the smell (reminds me of holidays) and i was a bit overwhelmed with the options! It wasn't on offer in my little local boots though, will try the bigger one in town this week.

La Roche for me. I do love Biore watery essence too, but it takes forever to come when ordered from amazon.

DH is off to Japan via South Korea soon. I'm giving him a pic of biore watery essence for when he's in duty free Grin

VanCleefArpels · 08/04/2019 20:52

Here it is

Hefzi · 08/04/2019 20:55

I love the Coola spray - it works as a makeup setting spray too. I usually get really bad pigmentation whenever the sun comes out, no matter what - but it left my skin looking even all summer.

It does have a slight whiff when you first spray it, but that wears off in a couple of seconds.

YesQueen · 08/04/2019 21:00

Frezyderm for me. Feels like a silicone primer, kept me pale - I wore it outside for 3hrs on the day of the last royal wedding (scorching!) and not a red mark in sight, I'm a v v pale blue

gummywitch · 08/04/2019 21:10

Nivea UV face shine control is nice. I've got the spf 50 one and def recommend it. Think it comes in spf 30 too. I've stopped using my Anthelios dry touch coz make up goes on so much better with the nivea and no piling. It's moisturising but in a nice way, dries down velvety smooth. A much nicer finish (the anthelios totally dried my skin out, somehow) but not like the oil slicks i got with Soltan, Sunsense or the Soap and Glory make yourself youthful one. Only £8.

Lamentations · 08/04/2019 22:00

Thanks for the link, good for thought. I do use quite a lot and cover my ears and neck but I might switch to a stand alone SPF for the summer months.

Surfingtheweb · 08/04/2019 22:36

You should be using factor 50 on your face, everyday of the year to protect your skin from the sun, it's the best way to keep your skin youthful 😀

Something like this

Surfing

Lovely, but £79? Shock

hettie · 09/04/2019 08:43

I tried alpha h in M&S yesterday, seemed pretty good. Or the body shop one?

Cakemonger · 09/04/2019 09:57

This was in the news the other day funnily enough. It says spf moisturisers aren't nearly as good as dedicated spfs, and that we should be putting it around our eyes: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-47776902

I've tried putting even my most gentle face spfs on my eyelids but they irritate my eyes - I guess it's sunglasses for me

snoozetastic · 09/04/2019 23:27

Eucerin mattifying face suncream is great

BlackPrism · 09/04/2019 23:28

Lancer sun shield. Pricey but incredible. I use it every day and a bottle lasts 6m+ it's none greasy but moisturising and sinks in great, no white sheen in pics. Love it
