Effaclar Duo, any good?

I have just bought some Effaclar duo, as a treat for DS who is struggling with teenage skin that's not bad enough for heavy duty treatments but has lingering red marks from pimples ( very fair skin).
Anybody had sucess stories with it or found a cheaper dupe/ copy that works?

I'm a bit disappointed with the Effeclar duo so far after buying it for my teenage DS. He has a lot of spots but wouldn't say they are bad enough for treatment.

He's been quite religious about using it day and night but although clearing them up faster it doesn't seem to be preventing them.

Maybe I'm expecting too much but can't see much of a difference in his skin from the cheaper Neutrogena anti-blemish moisturiser he was using beforehand!

Effeclar Duo was brilliant for my skin, I used to have bad hormonal acne on my chin and it always helped. What cleanser is he using? Sam Farmer does some great unisex skincare for teens

Most people rave about it but it was awful for my skin unfortunately. Gave me more spots that normal and seemed to give me lots of little lumps/clogged pores

It's been great for me. Sorted out cystic acne and generally keeps my skin clear and not too greasy. I will use it forever.

I am a 40 Yr old woman, not a teenage boy though.

Hmm, thanks, I think we'll try one tube and if it's not amazing I'll maybe try a cheaper option. He uses cetaphil for greasy skin for washing but I haven't managed to train him to be religious about a routine if he's serious about having nicer skin, hair products don't help!

It totally changed my skin for the better. It did take at least a couple of months though as it definitely brought out any tiny spot that must have been lingering under the surface so be prepared for skin to initially get worse before it gets better! If I stop using it for more than a couple of days then I really notice the difference in my skin. Smile

It worked well for ds but he could only tolerate it once or twice a week as it was so drying. He’s currently using Differin and that seems to be much better tolerated. Most Acne treatments do make spots worse initially. So you have to persevere for at least a month. Even Roaccutane makes spots worse initially.

It changed my dd's life.
Make sure you are using the right one, there are 2 or 3 different ones in the Effaclar range that are for different things.

Perfectmummy1234 · 08/04/2019 20:42

It has been amazing for my skin although it did get slightly worse for a while before clearing it up altogether.
I wash with Cetaphil cleanser then use Effaclar duo and the toner. Fab products.
Stock up when on 2 for 3 in Boots!

If it doesn’t work, ask your GP for a prescription for Duac cream. Works for me and nothing else does - not even roaccutane.

I'm a fan. They do a starter pack with a cleanser and moisturiser too. I think it's important to use a gentle cleaner, exfoliate and moisturise too. Get into a good routine. I have really sensitive skin so tend to stick to LRP, Avene or Eucerin products. LRP and Avene have a clay mask which exfoliates and reduces oil/clogging. I use it a few times per week and it really helps keep the spots at bay.
