Teeth whitening

I'm really paranoid about my teeth being discoloured and yellow. I brush twice a day but over the past few years I can definitely see discolouration. I've considered cosmetic teeth whitening but heard bad things plus it's so expensive.

None of the supermarket toothpastes seem to do any good and don't want to waste money on other expensive (useless) treatments in the chemist. Does anyone have any tips of recommendations?

I think the Crest whitening strips are ok but will only make a marginal difference. I recently ordered HiSmile as got sucked in by reviews. Waste of money. A friend of mine is a hygienist and she told me that the only way to do it is through the dentist as they can use a much stronger bleach than is available on the market.

I'm currently using Pro Teeth Whitening strips (got them from Amazon) and I have to say that they seem to be doing quite a good job.

It's a 14 day supply and I'm on day 4 and have noticed a difference.

Might be worth a go.

@Shodan thank you, can you send me a link? Looked on amazon and it's not clear which ones they are. Happy to give anything a go just don't want to waste money on things that don't work x

Have a look on Groupon and such like for dentist offers. The moulds plus gel are good and obviously one you have them can be reused for years.
People used to comment on my white teeth before I started smoking and drinking lots of coffee. I’d say keep off things that stain teeth too.

Get it done professionally or you could damage your teeth forever. Check what strength bleaching products are legal and make sure you don't leave them on your teeth for more then a couple of hours. Most certainly not overnight.

MuttsNutts · 08/04/2019 16:15

Are these the ones you bought @Shodan? They do have good reviews...

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/04/2019 21:03

Only a dentist can sell you proper teeth whitening products. (I clicked through to that Amazon link and I bet a lot of the reviews are fake.)

I whitened mine at the dentist with tother trays and the stuff to go in them. The initial outlay is about £200 but you can use the trays over again once you have them I'm nearly 60 and the result was really good. My teeth have stayed white for a few years even though I drink loads of coffee.

Pollaidh · 08/04/2019 21:20

Did mine at the dentist, it was about £200 - this was a trays at home experience, rather than the whitening being done at the dentist. The dentist made the moulds and the trays for my teeth, which reduces leakage and any chance of bleach burning etc.

I had pretty quick result, it's lasting well despite the coffee and tea. No side effects beyond mild sensitivity after using the trays a few days, easily solved with sensodyne toothpaste a few days, and no ongoing issues.

Pollaidh · 08/04/2019 21:21

And yes, once you have the trays, unless your mouth changes a lot, you just buy additional bleach when needed. It's the trays that are expensive.

Shodan · 10/04/2019 00:33

Yes @MuttsNutts those are the ones.

I can definitely confirm, as of this morning, that the stains on my front teeth (too much tea and Pepsi Blush are reducing.
