Current Clinique Girl - Is Aldi Caviar honestly good?

Sorensmum · 07/04/2019 16:04

Hi ladies
So I currently use the 3 step system by Clinique. At first I really liked it as my combination skin was less oily over night and my skin felt tighter. However I feel it is starting to dry my skin out a bit. I was going to just go down to the normal skin set rather than oily/combo skin set or over to clarins multi active stuff but I have heard this Aldi Caviar stuff is meant to be amazing.

I am 36 in May and my forehead lines are noticeable now and my skin is quite dull so needs something.

I hear so much about Clarins and Elemis so willing to try them but hey let's be honest if I can get fab cream for £6.99 then why not.

I've heard others say good things about it but when I tried it it stung my eyes something rotten and made them water for ages after I'd applied it. I'm not allergic to any other beauty product so I'm not even particularly sensitive.

Ellapaella · 07/04/2019 17:33

Obviously I don't mean I put it anywhere near my eyes! Just on my face bit that was bad enough.

ReginaGeorgeous · 07/04/2019 17:42

I'm similar to you OP, early 30s with combination skin.

I bought the Aldi caviar night cream and like PP, I also find it stings my eyes. I've been using it nightly for about a month and I can't say I've noticed any improvement in my skin. I won't be repurchasing.

Have you tried Clinique's take the day off balm or oil cleanser? I find them not as drying as the liquid soap.

Sorensmum · 07/04/2019 18:28

Thanks ladies
I have the take the day off balm and I do find that very good but I still need to use my holy grail of make up remover which is the Nivea one to get mascara off. I have just taken all my make up off and stuck the Aldi stuff on as I got some on my way home but its so rich I think it will just annoy my skin.

Not if you listen to Caroline Hirons

Namechanger4dis · 07/04/2019 18:39

I have to disagree with PP.

I have swapped my loccitain moisturisers for the caviar day, night and eye creams. The difference is astonishingly good. My skin is so soft and hydrated where as before it was quite dry.

It’s only about seven quid a pot so perhaps take the risk and try it.

At worst your lost a few quid and at best you will say yourself loads in the long run.

Tomtontom · 07/04/2019 18:39

Caroline Hirons hypes whatever she gets paid to hype.

I'd say the caviar cream is for an older age group. It was too heavy for me, but my mum loves it.

I use The Ordinary Retinoid 5% in Squalane, cheap as chips and one of the few active ingredients clinically proven to work. Just make sure you use an SPF in the daytime.

tinydancer88 · 07/04/2019 18:51

Another who found Caviar too heavy for my skin.

Sorensmum · 07/04/2019 19:02

I will have to give the ordinary a go! I will give the caviar a week and see how I react. I've tried all kinds from clarins and liz Earle, Body Shop and La Roche - just want to notice a subtle difference lol

Try it, if you hate it take it back for a refund.

If nothing else it’s not tested on animals like clinique & ttdo balm is solid palm oil.

Babyfoal · 07/04/2019 21:19

I've used Clinique for 30 years, but for the last six months have been using Lidl serum and creams. I've honestly noticed no difference

HabbyHadno · 07/04/2019 22:27

It gave me awful spots.

MoorMummy · 07/04/2019 23:11

Not tried the Caviar, but I use the Hot Cloth cleanser, Cellsation day cream and the Midnight secret eye and face night cream all from Aldi.i have a vast stock of all as they only appear periodically.

I’ve used expensive brands and mid range brands in the past and my skins has never been as good as it is now. I’m sure some of it must be genetic but I’m 48 and regularly get mistaken for early 30s. 😊 . Not saying I’m a raving beauty because I’m not, but my skin is decent for my age. I’d say try, if it doesn’t suit then you’ve lost nothing . I liked the Icellage range last year which I think was a rip off of La prairie , but I’ve not seen it since.

Sorensmum · 08/04/2019 10:46

Thanks so much girls
I am really realising as I get older that a lot of the high end stuff really is just a case of paying for the brand name and the false promises. TTDB is pure palm oil...wow will bin that then. I will check out Lidl Babyfoal!

Another one who couldn't get on with the Caviar cream - I ditched the day and night cream after a week as they made my face sore and my eyes itch. I've found that with all the Aldi face creams I've tried and have ended up using them up as body creams. And on the strength of a week's use I stockpiled the Hot Cloth Cleanser but 3 weeks later it has dried my face out no end and made it sore and dehydrated (it's the only product I changed so I know it's that which caused it). However this morning I massaged it all over my body before I got in the shower, combined with an exfoliating pad under the water it made for a really good body scrub and left my skin feeling really soft, so I'm going to use it up that way.

Out of desperation I picked up the Nivea Gentle Cleansing Milk - so far so good...

HabbyHadno · 08/04/2019 18:32

I've actually seen the best results from Olay's Regenerist Whip. Mat pay has meant I've had to scale back on my beloved high-end stuff and it's been quite painful.

Sorensmum · 09/04/2019 11:10

I picked up Lidls Q10 day cream and put it on this morning and so far it feels quite nice for £1.50

A budget cut and beauty spend cut is brutal isn't it

I followed a top on mn to use bog standard Astral cream, and it's great.
