Veja trainers - not very comfortable!

Anyone else experiencing this? They're really stiff, the sole is really thin and the tongue (also stiff) digs into my ankle. I don't want to send them back though! They've got a really beautiful terrazzo print on them and I love them. Will they break in?

Veja have a reputation for having overly long tongues in their shoes. It's really weird that they do this. What strange foot model are they using?!

I have to wear socks with mine to stop the tongue digging into my ankle so much. They're better than they were so I guess they do soften eventually but breaking them in takes some effort. And the sock wearing limits what clothes I wear them with. Compare them to my Nikes that I could wear immediately without any breaking in. I wouldn't buy Veja again.

I’m on my second pair. The first type I had I needed to fold under the end of the tongue to stop it digging into my ankle but they were ok after that. My new pair are much comfier, they’re the vegan leather ones. I love them too. They’re not bouncy like a running shoe but not as flat as converse.

hopeishere · 07/04/2019 08:57

Interesting! I was considering a pair of these but am not so sure now. I'd have to get them online so would have to send them back if not comfy.

Also contemplating some Ecco ones!!

IM0GEN · 07/04/2019 09:02

Ecco are very comfortable IME. I have a narrow foot and their sizes work well for me.

goose1964 · 07/04/2019 14:18

I have wide feet and a high instep and they fitted me brilliantly. I suspect the odd sizing had something to do with it.

evespudding · 07/04/2019 14:23

I too have wide feet and find them comfortable. Have both the esplar and v10 styles. Have seen others online making same complaint about tongue though.

DameDoom · 07/04/2019 14:24

They are agony for plantar fasciitis even with custom orthotics. Laces and tongue are a nightmare - felt like a 5 year old learning to tie shoes. I wore a pair begrudgingly for a year and they never got better. They are also v unattractive on.

gubbsywubbsy · 07/04/2019 17:41

I've just bought the marks and spender dupes and they are really comfy .. I haven't tried your ones because I live no where that sells them .

pamplemoussed · 07/04/2019 17:45

I too have wide feet and a high Instep and find them very comfy indeed. I have two pairs.

Divebar · 07/04/2019 18:09

I went to look at them in Arket and thought they were heavy and stiff. Not very appealing - although I didn’t try them on tbh.

LadyTrixie · 07/04/2019 18:13

Yes mine (Velcro fastening) were stiff with crazy uncomfortable tongue at first (thought it was me!). They have softened but annoyingly the tongue on one has now shifted to the side - probably because it moved when it was digging in - and doesn't sit straight. They are way more comfortable than they used to be though.

Having said that my son has the kids' gold high tops which are soft and super comfy.

Rainatnight · 07/04/2019 23:02

Ah, glad I'm not the only one! I wonder if the tongue can be trimmed at all.

I bought mine online, so hadn't clocked all of these issues. And then the vanity of loving how they looked stopped me from sending them back Blush

I bought a pair of V12 Veja Trainers and was told that the leather tongue softened up after a few wears. I have tried them on at home with a sock and not sure whether to keep them. I have fairly pale skin not leathery skin and blister easily, they also don't seem to have arch support like Sketchers. By contrast bought a pair of those for walking with arch support and they are so comfortable so definitely keeping these. Has anyone persisted with the Veja trainers or are they just not comfortable?! Thanks.

Oly4 · 14/09/2020 14:05

Mine were agony.
I dumped them in favour of Supergas

Delatron · 14/09/2020 14:35

I cut the tongues on mine. I actually can’t believe how sharp the tongue was. I walked about my kitchen in then and they cut in to my skin and made a mark after a few minutes. They mustn’t test them on anyone?

Ellapaella · 14/09/2020 15:41

I have Veja campo and find them really comfortable. I have really wide feet and they were comfy right from the start, no breaking in required for me. I've had them since April and no issues at all.

roundandsideways · 14/09/2020 21:08

I have Vera v12s, and going them comfortable after the first half hour or so. I have narrow feet and a high instep, so that might be it. I don't get on with Vera campo though, too short and wide for my feet

TricolourCat · 16/09/2020 15:05

Thanks all for your responses and yes I didn't look at comfort reviews for this brand before buying I just saw their plimsoles on sale at the White Company and they were not supportive enough for me like converse, so popped to Office where they have the trainer Veja V10 and V12's. I will try them with an arch insert but the tongue is an issue and even though they look cool, I'm not sure I can be bothered to flaff about wearing in the tongue which is ridiculously long!

being40 · 16/09/2020 15:19

My Vejas are still stiff three years after getting them.
I bought a pair of Stella McCartney adidas trainers which look similar but are far more comfortable- I might sell my vejas on eBay.

TricolourCat · 19/09/2020 17:23

Gosh thanks for sharing that, I don't know how so many women/young women can wear them but I see them now all over London. I returned the V12's to Office this week and they tried to persuade me to buy the Esplar instead, I tried them on and they were more comfortable but didn't purchase. I am sure you will find a buyer as they are so popular. Good luck with it.
