Do I have to wear tights or is acceptable to be bare legged? My dress is knee length.

Thank you!

Fake tan your legs

Musicalstatues · 07/04/2019 10:40

My legs are actually a reasonable colour as we went on holiday in the winter. Does that mean I can get away with it??

Same scenario last weekend for me. I hate tights (and dresses for that matter) but did decide to wear really sheer ones..sometimes the lighting at events makes me look blue as I'm pale, but if you are a healthy colour..go bare!

Aethelthryth · 07/04/2019 11:03

Yes, you need t wear tights or stockings. Bare-legged is too casual for a black-tie event

Tattybear16 · 07/04/2019 11:04

Yes sheer tights would be appropriate for a black tie event. Enjoy.

TSSDNCOP · 07/04/2019 13:44

Depends how good a state your legs and feet are in. If you've got tanned, smooth legs and non-scaly feet with a great pedi you're good to go.

DameDoom · 07/04/2019 14:47

Get 5 denier tights - M&S do them for a fiver. You will look bare-legged without the faff.

ElloBrian · 07/04/2019 14:54

Bare legged is too casual and not very classy I’m afraid. Wear sheers.

thedevilinablackdress · 07/04/2019 15:13

Wear a tux, problem solved 😊

WhoTFIsAlanBrazil · 07/04/2019 15:14

Definitely tights if it is black tie, bare legs would be too casual

TinselAndKnickers · 07/04/2019 15:16

I would have said bare legs is fineBlush

Musetti · 07/04/2019 15:17

Is the do indoors? If so, tights I’m afraid.

If everyone breaks with dress code and goes bare legged you can always take them off!

Fresta · 07/04/2019 16:16

Is there a reason you want to go bare-legged?

Musicalstatues · 07/04/2019 17:15

@fresta I just hate wearing tights! Plus it means I can’t wear open toed sandals either.
Yes it is indoors. Sounds like I’ll just need to wear tights then!

Can you wear a midi dress, then you wouldnt be showing too much bare legs.

Shmoople · 07/04/2019 17:32

Don't wear tights if you hate wearing tights!

NuffingChora · 07/04/2019 17:35

I’ve been to plenty of black tie/cocktail events in my time and I don’t think I’ve ever seen ANYONE wear tights 🤔. I would have thought that would be more casual? Don’t wear them if you hate them OP, you’re right about shoes and in the 21st century I think they would look bizarre with a cocktail dress!

Shmoople · 07/04/2019 17:37

I'd imagine the sheer tight wearers are older people.

CherryPavlova · 07/04/2019 17:41

If the invitation say Tuxedo, I wouldn’t worry too much about your legs.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 07/04/2019 17:44

Sally Hansen airbrush legs are amazing. It's like a fake tan but it looks really natural and washes off.

MassDebate · 07/04/2019 17:46

Bare legs are absolutely fine and not remotely too casual Hmm. Some people have funny ideas on here!

lablablab · 07/04/2019 18:00

In this day and age, bare legs are totally fine! The tights rule is bonkers.

troppibambini · 07/04/2019 18:01

Tights absolutely if you're over 80 or frumpy as hell.
Bare legs are fine op I've been to so many black tie events and I would say the majority of people are bare legged presumably your dress is knee length or longer so it's really not a problem.

Calloway · 07/04/2019 18:04

Bare legs with a slight sheen look miles better than sheer tights. Kate Middleton probably isn't allowed go bare legged and the 70 somethings who attend rotary club dances may well frown upon bare legs but everyone else thinks is perfectly fine! It wouldn't cross my mind to wear sheer tights.

BlueCornishPixie · 07/04/2019 18:08

Just go bare legged

It's fine, honestly no one will care. There's always been plenty of bare legged people at black tie events I've been to. It's not like it's a Jane Austen novel and your name will be sullied forever
