Can anyone explain the secret? All my experiments have came to naught.

Google French Tuck - it’s become a phenomenon thanks to Queer Eye.

Here you go 😁

I do it with lots of tops. Just tuck the front in, leave the rest loose, it's pretty easy. What isn't working for you?

TheComplexitiesofBaking · 06/04/2019 16:38

Argh! I look the same as Teresa trying to be stylish!

I've just Googled it and I realise that I'm already doing a "reserve" French tuck, i.e. tucking in the back of a top but letting the front hang looser to cover up my middle-aged tummy that's never been completely firm since I had children. Grin

I'm officially declaring the "reverse French Tuck" a new trend!

sirmione16 · 06/04/2019 16:40

I did this the other day with an oversized t shirt in a high waist skirt, I thought I'd nailed it and then my mother commented that she'd buy me one that tucked in "properly" if I wanted as I looked a touch scruffyBlush

elQuintoConyo · 06/04/2019 16:41

Makes me look like a fat overstuffed sausage. Brenda Bratwurst. Not a good style for me!

Redcrayons · 06/04/2019 16:43

I Do this and like it mostly. sometimes I stray into the fifth former waiting to see the head look.

There's a million tutorials on Pinterest.

anyoldvic · 06/04/2019 16:45

I'm not sure it works so well with skirts (happy to be proved wrong though, it just doesn't feel right on me). Jeans or trousers better, and mid rise, not the ultra high waisted kind.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 06/04/2019 16:49

Yep, definitely best with jeans /trousers IMO.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/04/2019 16:50

Ohh this is different to the tuck one half of your shirt front in and leave the other side hanging look with is so beloved of trendy stylish French Vogue women.

It just looks like you've been for a pee and been too hasty re-tucking yourself Hmm

TSSDNCOP · 06/04/2019 16:54

I like that colour on TM. I can do the French tuck, it needs to be with a cotton shirt to work really well, but I pulled it off yesterday with a white Uniqlo t-shirt. You just hitch in one side slightly off-centre.

hopeishere · 06/04/2019 16:59

I'm a chubster. French tuck looks ridiculous on me.

Drum2018 · 06/04/2019 17:04

Tan gives everyone the French tuck treatment in Queer Eye. It's his signature style tip and after watching all series of it, it did become a bit boring. But saying that I'd say we'd have been in a state of shock if he didn't do it Grin

WingBingo · 06/04/2019 18:26

I’m high waisted and for some reason this really works for me. I gives my waist more definition and kind of lowers the waist.

Cocolepew · 06/04/2019 18:29

Oh I didn't know this was a thing.
I wear jeans and tshirts for work and have started to tuck the front only in, I find it quite flattering, rather than having a longish tshirt hanging down.
I'm a robust 14 Grin

JaniceBattersby · 06/04/2019 18:31

I think it looks very good I’m very thin people. I am not one of those people.

Brummiegirl15 · 06/04/2019 20:02

I’m a size 14 hourglass and since starting the French tuck several people have asked if I have lost weight.

I bloody haven’t but it’s the trick of the eye by drawing the eyes to your waist. Leaving something untucked just creates more fabric and look bigger

XingMing · 06/04/2019 20:03

Sometimes the best way is to tuck in just the section above your belt buckle and leave all the rest flowing. Practice where is best on you, but know that you'll need to re-iron all the failed attempts.

fermezlabouchee · 06/04/2019 20:15

I wore a shirt and jeans the other day and had French tucked, about to walk into pub and husband pulled my shirt out saying your shirts half tucked in 🙄

EnidButton · 06/04/2019 20:31

I love Queer Eye a lot but the French tuck was a thing long before Tan started doing it and I'm sure it was a French tuck because it was popular with French women not because Tan's surname is French. Another example of women doing something for years but the rest of the world only noticing when a man comes along and does it. Wink

(Still love you Tan.)

EnidButton · 06/04/2019 20:35

I like it btw. It's a bit like pushing sleeves up or a turning up jeans. Looks more put together for some reason.

XingMing · 06/04/2019 21:18

It's all about a slight shift in proportion to make a garment more flattering.
