How can I stop my make up settling in my eye wrinkles?

Not a problem I wanted at just turned 30 but I CANNOT stop my make up settling in the lines around my eyes. Every time I look at myself in the mirror more has settled and I have to rub it off. What am I doing wrong?

In case it's relevant, I've listed my skincare / makeup below.....

Skincare:

Micellar water (night only to remove make up)
Tropic cleanser
Paula's choice toner and exfoliator
Vit c serum (day only)
Paula's choice day cream spf 50
Retinol serum (night only)
Paula's choice night cream

Makeup:

Currently Laura mercier original primer but I do also have porefessional by BENefit - should I be switching?!
Boing industrial strength concealer (but not applied where the make up is settling.... I don't think!)
Benefit foundation - the dewy looking one
No 7 loose powder
Then I do also wear a mix of benefit bronzers, blush and creamy highlighter all of which do probably stray into the dreaded eye line area.
Oh and UD setting spray
Also eye make up but I don't think that's an issue as that generally stays on my eyes!

I'm looking at the above and wondering if it's the volume of make up I'm wearing? It's a fairly natural look and I apply my make up fairly lightly....

Help!!

What do you use to apply foundation, concealer?

ChocAuVin · 05/04/2019 19:45

That does sound like a lot of product to me — have you tried ditching the loose powder and bronzers / blush and using a crème blush or a tint à la Benetint for a day or two to check?

jenthelibrarian · 05/04/2019 19:48

I'm old enough to be your mum, so my wrinkles are serious industrial-strength wrinkles.

However, at the weekend I bought an ELF eye-lid primer in Superdrug for three quid and it's magic.

So: primer might be worth a go.

sittingonacornflake · 05/04/2019 19:49

I use my fingers.

I could try ditching the powder although the loose powder I only use on my forehead, nose and chin anyway as that's where I'm oily. So really the only powder going into that area is a bit of the bronzer / blush.

Is it usual that it doesn't settle straight away? For example, it can be a couple of hours after I've put my make up on that I notice it seems to have crept into those lines

I would never use loose powder, use a cream blush and sweep a bit of bronzer over.

sittingonacornflake · 05/04/2019 19:50

Maybe I need a BETTER primer... any recommendations? Laura mercier doesn't seem to be doing it for me.

When you put your moisturiser on, let it settle into your skin before you start on foundation. I use a foundation brush to apply it then blend in with an egg sponge, especially around the eye area. Then creme blush, then eye make up, then sweep a bit of bronzer on with a big big brush.

OP I get this problem too so following! I do find not using powder helps a bit.

anothernewone · 05/04/2019 20:02

Botox?

JenMumma · 05/04/2019 20:08

Aghhh never ever use your fingers on your face. Or powder on wrinkles xx
Moisturise then wait.
Primer then wait.
Wet beauty blender sponge to dab on foundation and work in in a tapping motion.
Concealer applied with same beauty blender.
🙂🙂

My go to blush is Nars Orgasm, you only need a little and it makes you glow.

You aren't wearing too many products, unless you are applying them with a heavy hand. The issue is the concealer you are using - it's a cream concealer which are fine if you have no lines, but tend to settle in lines under the eye area if you have them.

You need a concealer that properly sets into place once it dries, and has some flexibility to it so it can move along with your facial movements without gathering into creases. Good options to try would be Tarte Shape Tape or YSL All Hours concealer. If you wish, set your concealer further into place with a very light dusting of a fine powder - Laura Mercier does a great one specifically for under the eye.

Your primer is fine.

Make up brushes for blending have sorted mine out!

I also went to Charlotte Tilbury yesterday for a make over (birthday prezzie) and the primer was amazing. I've struggled with primers before but if you did want a new one to try, I'd really recommend it!

In fact, I'm totally in love with all things CT now. Best makeover I've ever had and my friend buys me one most birthdays from different counters but this was my absolute favourite. My credit card is not happy.

Ok thank you for all the tips - lots to think about here!!

I was going to post this question too - I recently bought a load of decent quality stuff after a make over at Mac (unimpressed with their eyeshadow selection btw). Anyway, I was asked if I used powder or cream and wasn't advised to use cream. She used a finishing powder and powder blush/contours. I bought a finishing powder (gosh brand) with hyaluronic acid in but I swear it's that sitting in the wrinkles! I never experienced this used my bourjois foundation and concealer. I HOPE it's the powder and not the 40 quid of MAC products anyway.

@jenthelibrarian
Ooooh I'm going to try that. Thank you

I tend to find blending (with brush/fingers etc) vertically under my eye, never swiping across helps, also for me a lot of it's the product I use. Several concealers that I have crease and others just don't. Best combo I've found is applying etc concealer under foundation not over, and using one of the 'solid' concealers- Benefit boing sort of thing, patted in fairly firmly with my ring finger. I don't powder under my eyes either.

Then throughout the day if it creases I just spray on some face mist and reblend/reapply. It's probably impossible to stop some creasing but it's way worse for me if I use a liquid concealer and don't do the above. I'm 31 OP and I feel your pain Hmm
