My DD has booked for a spa day with her friend but the friend has had to pull out with D&V. It's tomorrow. It can't be rearranged as short notice. Step in me I've never been to a spa before neither has DD.
Do they provide towels, dressing gowns. Will it be ok I've only got a bikini (hope no one is looking as I'm sporting the whale look)
We are having a facial and massage. We will be wanting lunch do we get dressed again for that.
I feel nervous about going.

Thanks for your help.

Yes they provide (lovely fluffy) towels, robes and slippers/flip flops. Yes you will get dressed again for lunch. Don't be nervous, I'm sure you'll have a lovely time. They will explain everything to you when you get there anyway. I'm jealous!

Bikini will be absolutely fine, no one is looking! Every one I’ve ever been to provides towels aplenty, slippers and a robe. Etiquette would be robe and slippers on whenever you’re moving around between ‘areas’ eg changing rooms to pool, pool to to massage, between treatment rooms etc, but easy to take your lead from other people there. Also ok to wear your robe to the spa restaurant if there’s lunch included.

(I realise I’ve cross posted and contradicted person above me re. wearing your robe to lunch - either is fine if it’s a cafe or restaurant attached to spa. Most people I’ve seen would stay in robe, though obviously people do both.)

When you arrive you check in at the spa reception. They will ask you both to fill out forms, normally contact details, details of any health conditions or medication. It is very straight foward.

You will be given slippers, towel and robe and brought to the dressing room where there will be lockers for you to put your clothes.

Normally you arrive am hour before your appointmemt time so you have time to use the pool etc and have a shower afterwards.

For a facial and massage after my shower I put on a pair of knickers (they may give you disposable one).

You then normally go to a relaxation/waiting room and your therapist will come to the room and call you. They will bring you to the treatment room.

They may or may not have a foot spa where they do a foot soak/massage

The therapist will ask you to lie on the couch under a blanket/sheet without your robe, sleepers and to lower the straps of your bra if you are wearing one. They will leave the room for a few mins for you to do this.

Given you are getting a massage most likely you will be asked to lie face down. The thearpist will return and carry out the treatment.

You maybe asked to roll over on your back during your treatment. Your therapist will lift the blanket while looking away and you will roll over /or stand up off the couch and change position if that is easier.

The therapist will the cover you again and finish your treatment. Remember only the area they are working on will be uncovered at one time. If your leg is being massaged your back and other leg will be covered.

After your treatment you will most likely be given a list of the products used and brought back to the relaxation room. You may be offer herbal tea/water/fruit platter etc.

No need to dress for lunch - lots of people wear their robes. Personally I like to put knickers and leggings /t shirt on though and then robe on top!

Thanks for your help. They have just contacted our DD to ask what time we will arrive. They have explained a lot to her re towels, robes, slippers etc. Still nervous but quietly excited.

If you're nervous about being in your swimsuit etc, don't be! No one will bat an eyelid in the pool/sauna and the massage therapists will have seen it all before. They are always really good at keeping only the area they are working on uncovered, everywhere else will have a towel draped over. Enjoy yourself Smile

You'll have a lovely time! I wish I was going too.

No need to get dressed for lunch, stay in your robe.

If you have two bikinis, bring both, I sometimes like changing into a dry one. But definitely not required!

Drink lots of water, it can get hot.

stucknoue · 03/04/2019 21:32

It does vary so go on their website. Some ask for a deposit for the robes and slippers and occasionally they charge. Most have water available to drink but the package could include more. Enjoy, I love a spa day!

CakeNinja · 03/04/2019 21:44

I’d take flip flops rather than using slippers - I am a member of a spa and don’t see many people wearing slippers - I don’t get why you would, it’s a pretty damp area!
Enjoy your day, don’t worry about your bikini and relaaaaaaxxx Smile

StarlightLady · 04/04/2019 02:57

I second the flipflops idea. Some spa supplied slippers are designed so that you have a free trip in an ambulance.

Burlea · 04/04/2019 18:49

Just returned after a lovely day at the spa. Thanks for your advice re flip flops. The massage therapist was very good and made me feel relaxed and comfortable.
As you have all said there were lots of different body shapes and sizes. Everyone was very friendly. It might have been our first time but me and DD will definitely go again.
