I need to find a hat that is very similar to this of Renoir's circa 1950's. For a man, quite a large head circumference.
Can anyone help please.

Try googling fisherman's hat or bucket hat

Inthehatbox · 03/04/2019 12:20

Yes, bucket hat!

Thank you everyone for replying.
I thought bucket hat too, it seems a bit more floppy/wider brimmed.
But i think I'll have to use a bucket hat one.
Thank you.

If you have money to spend look at Tilley hats, as they go up to large sizes (and last forever, you can wash them, float if dropped in water and generally the bomb). It can be hard to get hats for big heads!

Thatvstylenof hat is actually quite easy to make if you can’t find one with a wide enough brim...

Queen, great website in general so thank you.
Unfortunately I need to find one more for the same 1850's period as it's for a documentary style thing, and less pricey due to budget, lol.
.
I think i might have to get a standard bucket hat, large if possible and wash and stretch it to distress & floppy it somewhat.

Inthehatbox,
Thats fab, I might just do that, I was hoping to get one quickly as I've got a few other bits to find too, but making one may actually be the best option. Thanks very much. 🤗

Oh in that case Amazon might be best - get a cheap one, make sure it's 100% cotton, then kick it around a bit, maybe dye in tea. here's one

a bit more distressed

nightieninja · 03/04/2019 15:22

Oo QueenKubau I liked that so much I got distracted and bought myself one 🤫.
It has metal stud holes in and I don't want to do a hash patch up job so I've printed a pattern to try and make a more authentic old french peasant farmer style hessian ish type one too.
Thanks everyone. WineThanks
