Hi has anyone heard of Tropic skincare ?
Is it as ethic, free from ,non carsonogenic as it claims.
Smells amazing, feels right , or am I being fooled?

Jeeeez I wish I hadnt asked 🤪
I just wondered what people thought of their products.!!!!!!

The Ambassador I deal with has become a friend . She has never asked, persuaded or pressured me into buying anything. I use quite a few of their range now and so does my teenage daughter.
My friend won a work incentive and bagged herself an all paid for 5 day trip to South Africa. She earns a fabulous living and this is her only source of income.
Joining the Tropic team has never crossed my mind and I would decline anyway but if that’s how she makes her living then good for her.

If they don't have CEO's, who, precisely is making the decisions and running the company, or is it run as a commune?

Susan Ma might be surprised to hear that there isn't a CEO Grin

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 03/04/2019 21:01

The only way to make money is to recruit new people who won't themselves make any, and will potentially lose a lot. So no for me it would not be good for her

Crystal2019 · 03/04/2019 21:32

Susie is founder and CEO, she hasn't hired another CEO. She finished paying her mortgage at 21 by selling these products herself and opened her business at 24 almost six years ago.

With Tropic you're getting natural stuff to put on your skin, take it or leave it. I've not come across anyone who has been exploited by it. I feel more people are exploited when they're sold makeup and products including baby products which contain levels of toxins and are tested on animals. I asked Boots why they are not able to display a leaping bunny. Tropic are harming no one, you don't have to buy from them! xx

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 03/04/2019 21:35

Confused why would she hire another CEO? I'm sure she is doing very well out of it all.

People are being exploited absolutely. You can choose to take no issue with that, but you can't deny that it's happening.

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/04/2019 21:43

Any MLM, including Tropic, is taking advantage of vulnerable/naive people who sign up and will make very little money or lose money. That's how those higher up the chain make their money.

EatenByDinosaurs · 03/04/2019 21:58

She does have Alan Sugar as a co-director too. Didn't she have to sign away 50% of her business when she agreed to use AS's money?

Spongebobette · 03/04/2019 22:05

It’s never about the product with MLMs
Doesn’t matter how wonderful the product is, the business structure is all about recruitment and most people won’t make any money.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 03/04/2019 22:06

Some of the lines on here are straight out of the MLM playbook.

My friend went to SA too. But there is no fucking way it was totally all expenses paid.

And just think how much body lotion you would have to sell with a small cut of each product to get enough for exotic hols and a solo living.

All ridiculous. It may not be 'as bad' as some, but it is still an MLM.

acatcalledjohn · 03/04/2019 23:03

As PPs have said: The products will only ever be as ethical as the business model. The problem with that is that the business model is inherently UNethical.

As for the "no CEO" comment upthread: Do you want to tell Alan Sugar that his investment bought him nothing other than a fucking starter kit? The man only invests in things that make him money, yet so many gullible people think this business is ethical and doesn't line anyone's pockets.

BINGO!

MissFitton · 03/04/2019 23:24

Just jumping on this thread as a family member has recently invited me to like their TropicBeauty page on FB and I'm worried they're going to be spending money I know they don't have.

I have a number of others on FB who sell it, a couple have been on, what looks like, fabulous holidays but I reckon they've paid for it largely themselves??

I'll be interested to hear more about is as it seems to be the 'Acceptable MLM' Hmm

EatenByDinosaurs · 04/04/2019 00:06

MissFitton have a read of the Anti MLM Coalition's website, they have a lot of interesting stuff and resources to help people who've ended up in debt due to MLMs.
The blogger Elle Beau also did a fairly heartbreaking series of posts about here time as an MLM "ambassador". Though hers was with a different company, the same rhetoric applies, the appear successful at any cost, supposed exotic holidays etc.

Crystal2019 · 06/04/2019 03:30

Has anyone helped GinGal? :D

It's early days but my training has been about the products and my passion for the ones I like. I don't friend request or turn no's to yeses. I have another job, but glad to make some money from Tropic.

Everyone has to make a living, and Lord Sugar wouldn't be linked to a pyramid or anything where people were being exploited. Maybe I am being exploited but I'm making money - women are exploited more in low paid jobs or in single motherhood where absent fathers become hero stepfathers, etc. so off topic I'd rather that change than take my Tropic away xx

Hidingteacher · 10/04/2019 08:34

My mate is currently glowing this and the constant Facebook updates are doing my head in. Plus she posted a link to a product a couple of weeks ago - a ‘cleansing body pebble’. Hmm What’s a cleaning body pebble, I hear you ask. I’ll tell you what a cleansing body pebble is: it’s a soap. An £8 soap for gullible people. Cleansing body pebble my arse.

colaCOLAcola · 21/04/2019 21:05

I second what @Acidrain says. Check the think dirty app and decide for yourself.

I love the products, they have made a huge difference to my skin. I also sell the products. I hound no one. If someone wants to buy from me they can but I won't force anyone to use tropic.

I wanted all of the skin care so it made far more sense for me to join the team.

millythepink · 21/04/2019 21:31

In ALL MLMs in order for the few to make good money, the many have to make very little or none (or end up in debt). Great for the few and an absolutely shit waste of time and money for the many.

Historically, MLMs target naive, slightly vulnerable people who are in unhappy situations.

It's no coincidence the OPs post happened tonight, on a lovely evening before a Bank Holiday. Targeting lots of people realising how nice it is to not be going to work tomorrow. Lots of people in unhappy jobs and unhappy situations.

It's the unintelligent targeting the even less intelligent.

colaCOLAcola · 22/04/2019 06:10

@millythepink I can assure you I'm not unintelligent. Bold statement.

Cinderella812 · 27/04/2019 15:11

I don't sell it (no need to), but I buy the products from the website. The skincare has worked wonders on my adult acne, and the makeup is lovely. The new refillable palette is great for people who are trying to reduce plastic and waste. It's all vegan. Ticks all of my boxes. I wouldn't spend my hard-earned cash on products that don't work (I've done that plenty of times!) I've seen comments about Tropic being expensive... but I don't think it is. If you usually get your makeup from Home Bargains, it probably is expensive, though. It's all relative! I used to use exclusively Kat Von D, so it seems reasonably priced. The most expensive thing I bought is a serum for £40... and I use two drops of it twice a week. Eight months later and I still have plenty. Cost-per-use can't be bad! Given that you can buy directly and don't have to go through an ambassador, it doesn't seem too MLM-y to me. I actually probably SHOULD buy through an ambassador, as I'm buying it anyway, so at least that way a local woman could have some benefit.

Creas35 · 27/04/2019 15:22

I love the skincare I use the cleanser, tonor and moisturiser and although it’s not performed miracles on the look of my skin it feels amazing. I also have all of the make up and again it’s so lovely, feels really natural on the skin but covers well. I’ve built my make up kit over a year as it is quite pricey. I also use the smooth skin face scrub which is really lovely. I am not sure about the new make up looks really expensive. Also the mascara is not really worth it. I think most sellers will lend you their kit for a few days to try things so maybe do that and have a play around. The person who I buy it from does well with it from what I can see but certainly no pressure sales I normally do a pamper at Christmas for her and get a few quids worth of freebies but the prices do seem to be going up a lot.

NitNat78 · 14/07/2019 01:58

I'm a new Ambassador and customer. I sell the products because I love them and they work. People comment on how good my skin looks, massive improvement to oily, hormonal adult acne, and are now my customers. All of whom love them as well.
Even die hard 'wipes' fans are converts. I just did my first event and made about £250, not bad for 5 hours work! Am shocked by all the negative comments and assume they come from people who don't use the products and have no proper knowledge of the company.

chza · 14/07/2019 10:26

I want to know of Topic managers who have a team beneath them get commission from what their team sell. I would assume so otherwise what is the point of being a manager? But I can’t find a straight answer about it online anywhere.

I’ve used one of the products and although it smells nice I’m not impressed - made no difference to my skin at all. There’s a few mums at school who are ambassadors and they’re really annoying. You can’t have a conversation with any of them without them trying to flog you something.

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 16/07/2019 09:10

I’m actually thinking about buying their new make up compact with the 5/6 products inside (bronzer, highlighter, brow pomade etc) for my holidays in October, will be better than lugging lots of make up with me!

Hoppinggreen · 16/07/2019 09:12

It is a mlm BUT I do actually like some of the products, as does DD who will only use things not tested on animals
I buy them from a local lady who knows that I will never hold a selling party or get dragged into her cult. You can buy it online as well if you want to avoid a rep altogether

Constance1234 · 16/07/2019 09:39

I love these products, they have done wonders for my skin. The hair stuff isn't great though, but smells amazing. I buy directly from their website so bypass any of the MLM sellers.

marriedthegambler · 21/07/2019 11:43

@chza yes they do but they have to be active too. Ie they can't just sit back and let the team make money for them.
They need to make a certain amount to get the commission from the team.
