Inoffensive or bleurgh?

Desperately trying to find shoes that will stop me wanting to cut off my feet, I'm fed up being uncomfortable.

I'm 42 and on the larger side, I wear dresses and skirts most days.

I tried them this afternoon and didn't want to take them off 😬

Sorry for the hideous link!

Not sure why you find shoes uncomfortable but if it's bunions then these shoes are amazing www.callashoes.co.uk

Not cheap but seriously worth every penny. I usually wait to the sales.

sassansbelle · 30/03/2019 23:11

@NWQM I probably find shoes uncomfortable as I buy relatively cheap (

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I tend to wear converse in the summer and have found them ok. I think PF is a funny thing - what works for some doesn't work for others. I love my converse but can't see me wearing them with a dress (I know I'm being a bit daft!)

I thought that too at first @hugoagogo but I've looked at them a few times and they're growing on me. I might have to try them on and see for myself!

I'll be on Instagram yet @sagradafamiliar 😂

The m and s high cut ballerina are so comfortable but looked awful on me. I’ve got thick ankles and they just exaggerated that.

I buy Gabor as I find them v comfortable. Get them in sales.

Betty777 · 30/03/2019 23:17

Try some vans - they are more comfortable and a bit less casual than converse. Also more flattering with skirts on a chunky leg (slightly lower cut) and NB I"m the same height, size and age as you! :-)

Rickytickytembo · 30/03/2019 23:36

I really like them! I would only wear them with trousers though not with a dress/skirts.

MoonStarsSun · 31/03/2019 00:10

I hate to say it but I think they are giving in. You're only 42. They are shoes for the older person, or the very young person (the minimalist whippet sort who would wear them with black cropped slim fit trousers and a white t shirt and look amazing in a bin bag basically). On the other hand, if they're comfy etc... then yes you should buy what's comfortable but there are probably a lot of other Clarks shoes (Clarks because they are supportive, proper leather, well made, wide fit offered etc etc etc) that would be comfortable and yet still with a nod to style.

MoonStarsSun · 31/03/2019 00:13

The Clarks Grace Lily in Champagne would be prettier with skirts/dresses. Not saying they're perfect but they would be nicer.

Palominoo · 31/03/2019 00:33

Sorry everyone but this thread is like the Hammer House of Shoe horrors.

Palominoo · 31/03/2019 00:36

I don't know about the quality but they're are some younger styles here

MoonStarsSun · 31/03/2019 00:47

Palomino I think the thing is matching style with comfort, that's the problem! Comfortable shoes are not generally stylish and vice versa.

ThroughASashWindow · 31/03/2019 07:28

Get yourself a pair of Fly London shoes..they are funky and as comfortable as slipper from the first wear..you'll never look back.

Juancornetto · 31/03/2019 08:04

I love them, they're a similar shape to Toms which I wear all the time in summer. I like the look of shoes that cover a lot of foot, not sure why, it's just the aesthetic I prefer

trinitybleu · 31/03/2019 08:14

@sassansbelle not heard the term clod hopper for years! My Grandad used to say it... Thought it was a local thing but just Googled and it seems more common than I thought.

Petalflowers · 31/03/2019 08:19

Ilike them and would wear them

Juan - I prefer fuller shoes as well, and prefer at least my toes to be covered.

sassansbelle · 31/03/2019 09:05

@Palominoo I know - I usually think of we have to ask if it's frumpy then it usually is!

There's quite a few I like on that link but the ones I like are those very similar to what I already wear - giving no support and no "paddedness"

For me it definitely is trying not to give up nice shoes in the search for comfort

@MoonStarsSun I tried a pair of the grace lily on and they gave at the sides of my feet with every step 😏 quite liked them to look at though!

Oh and I felt like I was giving in when I tried them on 😂 but then felt gutted when I had to take them off!

I just looked at Flylondon @ThroughASashWindow and I like these ones

@trinitybleu I am the epitome of a clodhopper at times 😬

I tried those last year and they were amazingly comfortable. I sent them back though as the colour was neither nude nor pink and slightly odd. I'm still considering getting them in a different colour this year, but I'm neither stylish nor beautiful, and I don't care!

BlueMerchant · 31/03/2019 09:21

I actually like the Clark's. I think they'll match most outfits, be comfy and they look absolutely fine ( I'm late 30s and was expecting to declare them hideous )

DontCallMeCharlotte · 31/03/2019 09:28

I like them although I have a high instep so they might not work for me. I tend to go with the Clarks Couture Bloom ballerinas. I have them in three colours.

I have a pair of loafers but I'm not convinced. I'm even less convinced by brogues.

Juancornetto · 31/03/2019 09:52

@petalflowers - ah, a kindred spirit Smile Definitely toes always covered! Flip flops are my idea of shoe hell! Grin
