Desperately need advice, waxing disaster

I really need some advice, I had my face waxed yesterday (had this done numerous times and always been great) and I have what I can only describe as a burn. There is now a layer forming but it is horrendously tight, could I put moisturising cream on? If yes, what kind? If no, what can I put on? Already applying aloe Vera gel by the bucket loads to stop the burning.

Use sunscreen, at least F30. That will help prevent hyperpigmentation.

Mammatron · 30/03/2019 22:45

Ouch! I wouldn't put anything on it for a few days after the burn but once it starts to get better I'd use this LRP cicaplast b5 with SPF. It's amazing stuff, I use it to keep my skin from retinol flaking and it helps my toddlers skin allergy reaction. As PP says, make sure you use spf. I burnt my top lip waxing before a holiday and ended up with hyperpigmentation because I wasn't cautious enough with the sun cream so even in this country I'd be using spf religiously!

FloofyDoof · 31/03/2019 00:11

Oh poor you, that looks so sore! Are you using retinol or retin-a/tretinoin? I only ask because I use tretinoin myself and was told not to wax while using it.

I second the cicaplast advice, it is lovely and soothing, and aids healing. Do you have any vaseline or aquaphor? Keeping covered in either on top of cicaplast to keep the wounds moist while healing will reduce the risk of scarring.

Wtaf

I'd be taking photos and seeing a lawyer

Go to a pharmacy and ask their advice.

kittyhello · 31/03/2019 10:15

Sorry for the personal question but is your period due or are you on your period? Whenever I have a waxing around that time I always suffer from burn marks. I now avoid going that time of the month.

Or was the temperature of the wax too hot for your skin? Hope it settles down quickly.

Shoeshelpplease · 31/03/2019 10:24

I had similar burns when I had a wax after using retinols (eyebrow area). They never asked me if I had been using anything and I wasn't to know.

Candleglow7475 · 31/03/2019 11:47

Oh wow, that’s really bad form from the salon. I had a burn from hot wax on my bikini area a good few years ago, it was very sore & weepy but it did heal, but I was in an area which wasn’t visible. I think bepanthen would be good for soothing it.
I know you probably feel very fragile about this but I’d get some medical advice about how to avoid it scarring, and think about seeking legal advice too.

Connieston · 31/03/2019 11:52

How awful. I'd not put anything on it tbh you never know what will sting. I agree that is absolutely worth pursuing a legal claim for. One little burn you could perhaps overlook but the beautician obv kept going...

Nowordsleft · 31/03/2019 11:54

That’s really awful. Do you have to go to work next week?

Ohyesiam · 31/03/2019 11:57

Did they explain wtf went wrong?
Take this to a lawyer op, it’s terrible work.
So sorry for your poor face.

liamhemsworthsrealwife · 31/03/2019 12:52

Op I do waxing.

Did they go over the same area twice? As this is a big no. Once you've waxed an area that's it. If you miss hairs you have to tweeze it. Otherwise your putting hot wax back on an area that's just had all the pores opened up and is now very delicate.

I'd be putting up a review of the place including pictures.

You need proper burn cream as well, go to the chemist and get actual burn gel. You don't want it infected.

feelingsinister · 31/03/2019 12:57

Bloody hell, that looks really painful! I'd be complaining in writing and asking for a full refund at the very least.

Hope it heals quickly.

Livinginhell123 · 31/03/2019 19:06

Hi all so sorry for the late reply, definitely not using retinol. I’m due a period in 9 days but it’s never made a difference before. I didn’t feel the wax being hot but I think she may have gone over the area twice because I remember her asking me to bite my top lip a couple of times and I know that I do have stubborn hair on my chin. I have been advised to seek legal advice but I feel so bad and to be honest wouldn’t know where to start. I’m the least confrontational person you will come across, if I could see that a sofa (an example) is white but someone says it’s black I’d be unable to challenge them more than twice (I know it’s not good). Unfortunately, I am at work next week but only end of the week so hoping it will be less visible by Thursday.

A friend had this on an eyebrow, not even as bad as yours, she was so upset but the salon admitted liability via text (said sorry, the trainee set the wax too hot) and she got £2k compensation, less the lawyers cut £1500. Not saying that’s what I’d do but yours is extremely bad OP really sorry hope it heals fast, sending Flowers

itsbetterthanabox · 01/04/2019 01:09

Are you using any acne treatments, steroids or anti ageing stuff? Been on a sun bed?
Those don't look like temperature burns- you'd have jumped if that was due to wax being too hot.

Time40 · 01/04/2019 01:36

My god - that is AWFUL. Something needs doing about that salon, before they make the same mistake with someone else. You HAVE to take this further, OP.

ChampooPapi · 01/04/2019 14:39

Never ever wax that area again and avoid laser too as once this fades (i promise it will) you will be far more susceptible to hyperpigmentation. In future ONLY have threading on your facial hair and absolutely never use hair removal cream. I got a chemical burn on my upper lip from it that has faded significantly after hydroquinone and ipl over the years but it will never go away completely.

I honestly think this will completely disappear but its going to take time and apply factor 50 on it every day (basically do this for the rest of your life!)

I cant believe they did this to you!

ChampooPapi · 01/04/2019 14:41

@liamhemsworthsrealwife totally agree with all you have said here. She needs a burn cream, that silver stuff? they gave it to my daughter in hospital on a similar burn on her arm from hot soup once

StrongTea · 01/04/2019 14:43

Looks so painful, not sure but would this be a health and safety issue? Maybe speak to citizens advice.

hazyjinty01 · 01/04/2019 18:15

Go to the chemist for advice please

Frazzledbutcalm · 01/04/2019 20:15

Exact same thing happened to me OP. I was taking isotretinoin. Never entered my mind this could happen ... contraindications said no epilatory treatment - I stupidly didn’t link the two.

Mine healed MUCH quicker than I expected ... hopefully yours will too.

Are you taking any medications at all?

Frazzledbutcalm · 01/04/2019 20:16

I still get waxed ... no problems now, it was purely my medication.

casperthefriendlyghoster · 01/04/2019 20:29

This is appalling- I would be suing the pants off them if only to prevent them thinking it's acceptable and doing it to some other poor unsuspecting client!
