How do I make DD look like she has a bun when she has short hair??

DD has short hair (think ginnifer Goodwin) but has first dance show(she's 13) where all girls need to have matching hair: buns.

Teacher suggested a donut but how will I fix it in her head????

That's ridiculous. I think you need to politely tell the teacher that that's just not possible. Could you suggest that your DD slicks her hair back so it has a similar look, at least from the front, to long hair in a bun?

You can get clip on hairpiece buns. You could slick back your DD's hair then pin the bun in place.

Is it long enough to get into a ponytail of some sort, if not I think you'll need to buy a clip in hair piece

Ex dance mum here. Sleek it back with gel and either put it into a teeny-tiny ponytail, then back comb and pin into a hairnet OR use donut and hairnet and fix with hairpins.

How short are we talking?

hazeyjane · 29/03/2019 15:10

My dd2 has short(but unruly) hair and dances. We have had limited success using a donut, with a net over and about 200 hair pins....it looks infinitely better slicked back or to the side with a French plait at the front (she has short hair with a long floppy front), which is what her Dance teacher usually goes for.

When I was growing my hair and had to have a bun for work I used to slick it back into a tiny ponytail using a thick band and then use a slumber net that matched my hair colour twisted around several times into a bun shape until the elastic just slipped over the band and gripped it into place. Took seconds few and looked convincing (people used to be very confused when they met me out of uniform for the first time and my hair was short!!).

I suggest you buy grips, hairnets, spray, gel, donuts in different sizes and hair pins, and wave her a cheery goodbye at the stage door.

Then they'll have to do it for her. Most dance schools have somebody (often an experienced chaperone) sorting out hair, as lots of parents struggle with getting it right.

I had this with DD when she was younger. She had a pixie haircut and her dance teacher asked her to put it in a bun. The compromise was to slick her hair back and that was that. She didn't want and I didn't force her to have a fake bun.

Lots of fab ideads, thanks, DD hair is short ,fringe about 2inch, rest shorter so not much to tie up!
