I really, really need advice about this colour combination... it's an odd one but I think it could work...

Deep breath (please don't laugh)

Emerald green with blush pink???

I'm MASSIVELY STUCK on a wedding-guest outfit; I don't really 'do' dresses (at least not in a smart way, I like them for casual but for smart I feel much more elegant in trousers - hence my username...)

I've just seen this jacket from Hush

www.hush-uk.com/womenswear/daywear/jackets_coats/anita_blazer_blush.htm

which I like but which I'm wondering... could I wear it over an emerald-green silky blouse??

I love love emerald green and think I'd feel most comfortable in said blouse with nice smart navy cigarette pants, heels and...? What on top? It's an April wedding in north European city so it could be anything from sunny to chilly, I definitely need a jacket or coat of some sort.

When I try navy jacket with the emerald green it kind of 'kills it' if that makes sense? (Navy trousers fine as not on top of the blouse obv). Maybe I'm trying too dark a navy.

I can't find the right other shade of blue.

I have a yellow jacket but emerald green underneath makes me look like a daffodil :)

So I just saw this blush pink and I thought... maybe???

But I am nuts?

I love love love blush with khaki and wear it a lot, but is bright emerald going a step too far?

Any advice appreciated.

I think gold shoes would look better.

XingMing · 28/03/2019 12:24

Coincidentally, in yesterday's Times newspaper, there were trouser suits from Baukjen and Hobbs, Hobbs in deep raspberry pink and the Baukjen in mint green. Both slightly cheaper than Me&Em (which also has some lovely emerald stuff, but at almost double the prices). I would link, but the paywall wouldn't let me.

HepburnKNotA · 28/03/2019 12:26

Oh, that emerald green trouser suit from Me and Em is stunning. The wedding's in 2 weeks so I can't wait for a sale :(

Thoygh tbf those trousers aren't my thing at all; I only really suit quite a cropped slim trouser.

I wonder, would just the jacket go OK over my current emerald green blouse and navy trousers? It feels weirdly a bit boring now I've been looking at amazing pink trouser suits for the last hour. But emerald jacket/top and navy trousers would definitely work. I can (just!) afford the jacket full-price and I would get plenty of wear out of that, it's a stunner and just the shade I love.

A more muted green might work, but not sure Emerald Green and Blush as the tones clash.

HepburnKNotA · 28/03/2019 12:30

does anyone think it's too messy to wear emerald green jacket, PINK top and navy cigarette trousers? Too much going on, I think?

I'm just so drawn to this pink/green combo now...

The Hobbs trouser suit doesn't arrive until next week, so won't hit the sale in time for your wedding. Emerald top and jacket over navy trousers would be good, but I don't think you should add pink/any third colour except white to the mix.

PartridgeJoan · 28/03/2019 12:33

I love pink and green together, it's my favourite colour combo. Go for it!

XingMing · 28/03/2019 12:33

This is the Baukjen outfit.

RockinHippy · 28/03/2019 12:36

Fashion designer here & I would say absolutely not, the 2 clash badly & spoil the other colour & both will drain your face making you look washed out. The shade of the jacket is very wrong to mix with a strong green..

If you must though, have a look at a colour wheel & use this as a guide to which greens & pinks you can safely mix without looking like you got dressed blindfolded

cheeseandpineapple · 28/03/2019 12:37

Emerald green jacket, pink top and navy trousers sounds too much but hard to say without seeing the exact shades and putting it all together.

RockinHippy · 28/03/2019 12:38

Also just spotted its for a wedding - traditionally green is meant to be no go for weddings, as it brings bad luck to the couple, though bar Irish, I'm not sure many care so much about that these days, but it's worth checking that you won't be insulting anyone by wearing green

HepburnKNotA · 28/03/2019 12:42

I love the style of that Baukjen trouser suit. That's EXACTLY the trouser/jacket style that suits me.

Wrong shade of green, maybe... I used to love pastels but now I don't know. I'm surprised by how vibrant emerald looks on me, it brings out my pale skin/dark hair combo perfectly and I don't know about this pale mint. It's stunning but might not be 'me'. I'd need to try... and budget doesn't stretch to ordering multiple things online all at once just to try! Alos the Baukjen is out of my price range, I think... so gorgeous, though... hmmm, maybe if I buy nothing else for a few months!!!

Out of interest, does anyone think a nice bright/candy/ pink top would work with that mint green Baukjen suit?

I think you could wear a soft pink, but not a very bright pink.

sanitygirl · 28/03/2019 14:22

If you are short these Topshop petite trousers could work

sanitygirl · 28/03/2019 14:43

I am now craving some pink trousers! If anyone finds some good tall ones please post here

XingMing · 04/04/2019 15:46

@HepburnKnotA, what did you decide?

princessbear80 · 04/04/2019 20:51

Another pink trouser suit option

It's definitely a colour combination that's being used... Google it and loads of results come up.

Layer a warm top under the blouse.

KnitFastDieWarm · 07/04/2019 22:56

I adore greens and links together! My bridesmaids wore green dresses with hot pink shoes and petticoats and looked bloody awesome, if I do say so myself Grin

HepburnKNotA · 09/04/2019 10:20

Hi all, thanks again for all the help on here.

I've chickened out a bit, having spent hours and hours and LOTS OF MONEY ordering stuff to try on and then sending it all back... a pink trouser suit, it turned out, was just not for me. At least, I couldn't find one I liked enough to justify the cost.

So I've gone a bit boring but I know at least I will feel chic and comfortable. I'l be wearing the rose-pink Hush blazer with navy cigarette pants, a silky navy top and silver slingbacks. The only new thing i've bought are the blazer and the shoes so I've managed to spend a little over £120 and it's all stuff I'll be able to re-wear plenty (which is my new rule for a new purchase; I've no longer got the budget for a lot of new clothes and I just feel the planet is better off without too much STUFF being bought by me!)

It's a second wedding (an older couple) so I don't feel the same need to go massively trad-weddingy if that makes sense. I just want to look smart and chic (enough!) and as I'll be child-wrangling all day I do need to be comfortable.

Thanks hugely for all help and advice. I'm still OBSESSED by trying out shades of pink and green together (have treated myself to new khaki Hush chinos as my major spring everyday purchase and will be looking for pink to wear them with) and I'm still obsessed by emerald green. I'm just playing it safe for this particular occasion.

I know mossy green and pale pink look lovely together. Reminds me of tea roses. I think stronger shades could work too, depending on tone.
