Could anyone knowledgeable advise me on getting rid of yellow in my hair?

So I usually have my highlights done by a hairdresser friend but I noticed that my hair was starting to become brassy as I wasn't using a purple shampoo.

I stupidly decided to attempt to tone it myself but ended up buying a hair colour that was described as "ash". My hair is clearly quite the opposite now and I'm stumped as I've been trying to counteract it by applying purple shampooSad

Other than visiting a professional (as I'm quite embarrassed tbhGrin), do any hairdressers or people who know hair have any suggestions to tone down the brassiness?

Have attached a picture.

The purple shampoo really works. I've found the Tresemme one the best.

floribunda18 I've been using the provoke touch of silver which I find usually works well. Do you use yours as a shampoo rather than applying on dry hair, and how long do you usually leave it on? Thank you

I just use it as a shampoo and leave it on maybe 2 minutes. I am using the Provoke one now but I don't think it has as much of an immediate effect as the Tresemme one.

Fanola shampoo is the best. I leave it on for 5 mins every 10 days or so and it is amazing at removing the brass. My hairdresser also uses it as a toner - would highly recommend it!

thank you all

I found the touch of silver shampoo works well. It’s the one you leave on for 5mins. I use with the conditioner too and my hair looks instantly less brassy.

I’d use a shampoo for blonde hair for every day, then the touch of silver (which is purple) every week or 2 to help keep the brassiness down

crimbl · 27/03/2019 21:34

Thank you castleonacloud will try that

Fanola is fantastic. Best on the market. However, I've recently had fab results with Bleach London Pearlesence. It's takes all the yellow out and gives a super nice, expensive looking cool beige blonde.

Letitbegin · 27/03/2019 23:47

Fanola is the best but your hair really isn't light enough to get the best results from it. Go see a hairdresser get a set of bleach highlights if you want it lighter or some highlights and lowlights if you don't want it too light- I'm a hairdresser

crimbl · 28/03/2019 00:43

@Letitbegin I'm worried that having more bleach used will make it even more brassy, is it likely?

You need more highlights to remove the brassyness

wonderpants · 28/03/2019 06:27

Fudge purple shampoo is great. Put it on dry hair!
Much better than the provoke touch of silver.

If you're going to use the Provoke, make sure it's the one that looks purple from outside the bottle, not the grey looking bottle.
