Eye make up remover for sensitive skin?

WhoTFIsAlanBrazil · 27/03/2019 09:30

The skin around my eyes has become suddenly dry and sensitive. I think it is linked to a Nivea oil-based eye make up remover I have been using for a few weeks.

Can anyone recommend something more gentle please?

I have no known skin allergies but every so often react to a particular product and this seems to be the case here

Have you tried the Simple one? I've used that for years, often on offer at supermarkets/chemists.

Nivea is a nightmare for me. My sensitive skin loves Avene Micellar water

I have dry sensitive skin and I use Tropic face cleanser. It's quite expensive for what it is but it leaves my skin clean and I have no issue with my face drying out.
I can't use any cleansers that go straight onto a cotton wool pad as they don't clean the make up away properly and I'm left with patches of dry flakey skin.

Like paap I have used Simple eye makeup remover for years. I am a contact lens wearer and it is gentle enough to use with my contacts in.

L'oreal gentle eye makeup remover is amazing.

I had the same problem after using a Nivea eye make up remover. Avene do an intense eye make up remover that removes waterproof mascara. I've not had any problems with it after about 1 month of use every week day.

MountainPeakGeek · 27/03/2019 20:11

Wouldn't advise it if you're a contact lens wearer, as you can get the occasional slick Grin but I find olive oil works great for me, even for waterproof mascara.

DonaldTramp · 27/03/2019 20:19

I use a tiny smudge of coconut oil wiped off with a cotton wools pad.

I've got ultra-sensitive eyes (I'm a contact lens-wearing, allergic type and anything heavy duty or oil-based is a major no-go), and I've used Body Shop's Camomile Eye Make-Up Remover for years quite happily.

My Optician identified that I was using an oil based eye makeup remover and told me to stop.

I've never had any problems with this Gatineau one.

DistanceCall · 27/03/2019 22:20

I second the Body Shop Camomile Eye Make-Up remover recommendation. It's extremely mild.

asparalite · 27/03/2019 22:24

By far the best one I've used is La Roche-Posay Respectissime eye make up remover it really works well no stinging or residue, I buy it all the time!

fourcanaries · 27/03/2019 22:27

Clarins is the only one I can use.

MrsFudge · 27/03/2019 22:28

I have really sensitive eyes and have tried lots of removers. Best for me is Bioderma Sensibio (the pink one).

WhoTFIsAlanBrazil · 27/03/2019 22:39

Thanks all, lots of great recommendations!

I tried Simple in the past and usually like their products but I found that it didn't always cope well with waterproof make up.

I will give some of the others a whirl!

Star this Nivea one was oil based, this might well be the issue!

I used to take mine off with a cotton pad soaked in warm water and baby oil x

bitofabelly · 28/03/2019 06:18

Micellar water 100%

thesunwillout · 28/03/2019 06:35

The Nivea extra gentle one in blue bottle, I find the oil one useless and messy.

QueenofCBA · 28/03/2019 06:44

Another vote for coconut oil, taken off with a warm cloth.

BusterGonad · 28/03/2019 07:15

I use a cleansing cream all over, rubbing my mascara with it too, then use the (clear) Simple one to remove remaining eye make up. Oil ones always upset my skin.

BillywigSting · 28/03/2019 07:19

The simple one is very good but, especially if on a budget and more in keeping with the price range of nivea, but my favourite is the clarins one that you have to shake to mix

barnacharmer · 28/03/2019 07:20

I always had issues with reacting to make up removers until I started using badly shop camomile. It's effective but so gentle

sandgrown · 28/03/2019 07:22

I have just been bought a Vichy micellar cleanser that seems to work well and not sting.
